I got about what I expected out of this contraption. I will have to find a more siutable motor. This one is not going to survive very long. The hull is 100% water tight..like all of my boats really. I need to extend the battery wires in order to move the cg foward enough. The prop seems fine. I may take an inch off the OB bracket. It seems to drag a bit when its getting up on plane. I think I need one of those speed 600s or titain motors off a villan. The car motor drwaing alot of current. After a 2 or the minute run the esc was 151 and the motor was 168. It has been a long time since I smelled burnt armature epoxy yehaa!! . With the correct motor it will make a speedy recovery craft. Exactly what I was lookin for.

how low does it sit at slower speeds? It almost looks to high to really catch anything right now.

I'm going to ajust the catch down and with the Packs moved foward @ pushing speed it should be fine.

Couple of thoughts.

I'm afraid those temps will only increase during a recovery, even with a stock 27 turn.
As you know, part throttle under a heavy load will be hard on equipment.
This would be a good application for one of those 2#Graupner 800 outboards. Then on the 3rd channel, set yourself up with a 6v/ 12v switch. Use 12 volts to get you there and 6 volts when she's at work. Then you would be closer to having the best of both worlds.

That is a fantastic idea Doug . If I where to keep this big 30+ inch hull I would go in that direction. What I think I need to do here is put a titan 550 in it, bring the ob an inch closer to the boat and install some cooling on that esc. If I only use it to fetch it should live long enough for the Apache to come avalable. Then Ill give this hull to one of the kids to play with. Your suggestion has me really has me thinking about another direction to go in though...

Seems like this would be a good project to have a gear drive in, some way. That way you can run a big prop, and low RPM. Low speeds, lots of tourqe. If this thing was a villain you would have 2 of those

You talk of another direction....Do up a villain EX. IMO the twin motors with the lowest gears available and 2-50MM props would be the best thing going on paper. The boat would be SLOW. But the motors on the gear drives should be good for lots of low end. 2 big 50MM thrust cones that can be swung around by the steering servo to manuver very nicley. I'm still working on mine some, I'm using the 7.2v villain even.......

Everytime I see rescue boat, I think villain. Sorry, I have not ran mine yet, but anyone who has ever made a simple PVC cradle and slapped it on a villain has always had good things to say. I'm planning on loving mine.
