I would run 2- 3S packs. It looks like its already set up for that configuration. Parallel them up. Minimum of 20C, but go higher if you can afford it. As for mah.. and this is one that Im still not convinced what some say. Some say go as high as you can. Some have told me personally to go as high as I can... but heres my .02. I believe you can go too high on mah on some models.. especially RTRs. I burned up an esc that was used to running no more than 3000mah. for a couple years. Never came in hot, never gave me any issues. I stuck a 5000mah batt in it and it lasted about a minute before it stopped and the magic smoke appeared. But, that was on a brushed system. Im no electronics major, but some also say that higher mah does not release or give you any more speed. I call BS on that one as well. When I raced cars (brushed back in thae day) I remember when the 2500mah came out and I finally upgraded my 1700mah batts. It was like night and day. Then I remember a touring car a I had and went from a 2000 to a 4500 and it became uncontrollable. Mah definitely help off the line, outta corners and provides a bit more speed.
I run all my current BL boats on 5000mah. Will be changing one to 5800 hopefully soon. A lot of people run thier "good quality boats" on up to 10000mah. If I were running the Genisis, Id probably start with two 3S 3000mah 30C batts and go from there. That parallelled is going to give you 6000mah and the req. 11.1V. See how it runs, see how it handles, see if there is any excessive heat build up etc., and then make a determination on, or if, you want to change anything. Good thing about 3S batts in the 3k mah range.. they are very inexpensive.
Sorry for the whole speech, just wanted to give you reasoning as to why and how I came to my recommendation.

i have been using li-po's for a couple of years now but alway one pack. either 2s or 3's. 2's for race cars and 3's for crawlers but never anything in paralell. i understand the concept but just haven't needed it. usually the thing that makes a noticeable difference to me is the c rating. when we went from the 20c orion packs to the 40c packs it was a huge diffrence. i was thinking the same thing maybe 2 3s 3000 mah in the 35- 40 c range in paralell. i'll think i'll order a genesis tomorrow. when is your buddy getting his? do they have them in or is it on backorder? thanks again

Its still on B.O. No telling when it will arrive????? Hopefully soon. Im itchen to see that boat.
Only difference Ive noticed in C rating is temp of batteries. The higher the C rating the more thay have to offer and do not stree as much. As for speed, I dont think there is a difference from my 20C to 30C. Brand wise, I found a huge difference. I have a pair of 2S Reedy 5000mah 20C and compared to my Turnigys w/ the same ratings, the Turnigy pushes that particular boat 2mph faster. That blew me away. And the Reedys were only 2 months old so it wasnt like they were ancient packs.

wow that is surprising about the turnigy packs. i guess the c rating might be more noticable in a car or buggy as you can feel the extra punch. hobby king sells the turnigy packs also? you were saying to go with the faster shipping what shipping method should i use?

Yeah Turnigys are thru HK. I think its EMS... something like that. Not the Air. It will get your stuiff to you in about a week and its trackable from thier link until it hits the states, then its trackable thru USPS.com from there. Its worth the extra 10 buck or so. Ive heard of people waitng 30 days+ on Air shipment.

so which do you think would ultimately be faster the smaller apparition with the lower kv or the bigger genesis with the higher kv on the same batts? the genesis is really long for the beam width. i bet the apparition would probably turn a little better

Apparition would be an easier boat to get fast and probably handle better. Have you seen my twin drive HOTR build? Same hull. Disgustingly cool boat. And if you want one now and dont wanna wait, go on ebay and search 32" catamaran. Look for "Head of the river". Same boat and you can by it in a few different stages... including white boat, yellow boat or as the Apparition hull on HK.
