CAT sponson shape and angle questions

Ken, the seller told me that this is designed this way...(no, I did not belive him eighter), oh well it´s 100 buxx, what can one get for that price...

The carbon is dried, no change in hull shape. -atleast it looks good on the inside now...

Will test drive it next weekend

Nice work on the C/F keep us posted on how she runs, like Jeff said it would be easy to fill if need be, but might be fine just as it is. Some guys here on OSE are running these hulls, would be interesting to hear if they did any changes to the sponsons.

Have you tried running it like it is just for arguments sake.

I know its not "supposed" to be like that, but for sh1ts and giggles would be interesting to see how it runs, maybe it will go mint, maybe it wont.

There are several of these HOR cats running in the UK SWAMBC series which have the anhedral sponsons. The class they run in is a restricted brushless endurance formula, with speeds between 35-40mph.

Apart from the obvious problems of circuit racing a long narrow cat (ie., blowovers), these boats seem to be perfectly acceptable handling-wise. In other words, the anhedral - intentional design feature or not - does not seem to be a problem.

As they all appear to have the same "defect", I doubt this is simply down to bad moulding in GRP or damage in shipping.

Before spending a lot of time and effort correcting a possibly non-existent problem, perhaps try running the boat first - if it's no good, then get busy with sandpaper and filler.

Flipped 3 times, but that could be because of the wind or choppy waters and this was my first ever run with catamaran

I have just succeeded in tweeking my hull back into it's correct shape by wedging peices of wood between the sponsons.
I had to force them apart by at least 1/4 inch to get the tunnel walls vertical and the pads back to the correct dihedral.
I then softened the fibreglass using a heat gun ( well actually I borrowed my wifes hair drier ) and was surprised how easily it relaxed into position.
When I first wedged the wood in place I had to really lever and force it in, but after a few minutes with wifey's hair drier the wood will drop out if I turn the hull over right side up.
I will now figure out a way to reinforce the hull inside so that it can't get out of shape again, probably using carbon fibre rod or tube, or maybe angle alloy.
