    Winding info question?

I was looking at motors, now I know the difference between a Y and D but paid attention this time to notice the Y2.5 or a Y3 as well D2.5 , D3.5. What is the representation of these numbers? Thanks guys!

    Tim,

I am curious as well, maybe start a thread in the NEU motors forum on RcGroups?

The same as 1D, 2Y, etc. - they refer to the number of turns on the stator. Neu even offers 0.5 winds. The fractional winds are used to allow more Kv offerings for each motor size than the standard "whole number" winds.

Thanks for the reply. Now lets see if I got this right. So like brushed motors the lower the wind the more RPM/less TQ and the higher wind would be less RPM/more TQ? P.S speed doesn't kill...it's the sudden stops that do the damage! LOL!

Yes usually the lower the wind the higher the rpm.

I hear Y winds have more torque over a D wind but idk if that is really true. Boats can run great on both winds in my opinion just have to play around with them a lot COG, props, etc. There again you have to make sure you have an adequate motor and ESC for whatever hull you put it in.
