    Motor Sizing

Hello everyone, I'm new to R/C boats, but not R/C in general.

I've been looking for a different challenge as of lately and set out to draw up blueprints for my own boat build, I used the station coordinates for full size crackerbox race boats and have begun drawing one up at 1/10th scale, figure it will look cool on a trailer behind my scale crawler.

My question is what size of brushless motor am I going to need. I'm not planning on a shaft drive, I'm thinking either submerged with a flex drive or a surface drive setup. I'm not to worried about to much speed and flipping, but want the ability to really wind it out when the water is glass.

Figuring ~30mm prop size, running 3s lipo, how many watts is it gonna take to push a 18" boat into the high 20's low 30's. I've got a 2816 outrunner mocked up in the plans so far just to see how much room i'll have to play with.
