Thanks guys. Ya'll are awesome... and hilarious. I made the cut with a dremel and cutting disc. came out perfect.. also dipped the tip in acetone to clean it off and then solder the tip. Now its nice and clean..
I use a dremel reinforced cut off wheel,, or my Klein side cutters and leave 3/8 or so extra and then put it on a belt sander with 80 grit and sand to correct lenght

I'm with Chris, I haven't soldered a flex cable in over a decade. Sometimes I put a drop of Loctite on the end, usually not. I have never had a cable end loosen or fray, and I have had a LOT of boats over the last decade from 2S to 10S, sport boaters to SAW racers.
One caveat - I do use collet couplers exclusively. The less efficient screw couplers damage cable and for that use, solder may help with cable life.
