Leopard 4074-2150kv

I just got a new Leopard 4074-2150kv in mail but it did not come with the two screws and washers to attach it to the motor mount. Does anyone know the size of those screws? I have some that thread in but think they may be too long! Thx Jeff

i use 6mm long which does the job.

Ok thx. One more problem now. I had upgraded shaft and collet on stock UL-1 motor. A pic of collet is below. The outer two pieces of collet fit the shaft of new Leopard motor but the inner brass piece is to small. What will I need to do? Thx Jeff

If I'm not mistaken, you got the wrong size. the 5mm is right but it needs to be 5mm x .187 instead of .150

Yes I actually bought this for old stock motor just thought I could use it with new one as well. The outer parts of collet fit new motor just not the brass insert. Can I just purchase a new brass insert or do I have to buy a whole new collet? And my flex cable is .150 . The part of brass insert that goes on flex shaft fits. Its the part of brass insert that goes to motor shaft that doesn't fit. I have the Kintec Aeromarine 5mm x.150. They have a 5mm x .187 is this the one I need? Can I just drill out center of this brass insert I have? TYhx Jeff

They do offer the insert alone. I believe both OSE and Kintec carry them.
I personally didn't like that collet at all though. Two of the brass prongs broke on mine.

But what I don't understand is that the .150 and .187 pertains to the size of the flex cable. I cant fit the brass insert on the motor the flex cable fits in this brass insert. So if I order the 5mm x .187 is going to go on the Leopard shaft? doesn't sound right Thx Jeff

"C" goes over the flex shaft.
Then you put the small end of "B" on the flex shaft as far as it can go.
"A" goes onto the motor's shaft.
Screw "A" and "C" together.
Tighten the grub screw (in "A") down onto the flat side of the motor's shaft.
Done

The cable is .150". The motor shaft is 5mm.

So brass insert doesn't actually slide onto the motor shaft. Just trying to understand how a collet works. What is the purpose of the prongs on the one end of the brass insert? Thx Jeff

The insert doesn't even touch the shaft. The prongs close as "A" and "C" screw together. This provides a clamping force that holds the flex.

The problem I had with mine was that I had to expand the four prongs (every time I took the drive line apart) to get the flex shaft back in. This eventually caused it to break. I still managed to hook everything up when the first prong broke. I got desperate when a second adjacent prong broke. I still managed to make it work. I ended up going with this collet when I redid my entire drive line.

Awesome now I understand. I knew the stock UL-1 motor had a 5mm shaft also and the Leopard did as well so couldn't understand what was going on....lol Every other one of these motors ive seen pictured has that type of collet you just posted. So I will order one of those. Thx Jeff

I haven't ran the boat since I 'repaired' it, but like you said, most other boats have something similar. So what can go wrong? :D

For you to consider: these three piece collet look interesting from an engineering point but is actually more of a headache than the simple Octura two piece collet. The brass insert is often deformed making the removal of the cable a pain.

The short is out of stock. I suspect in the UL-1 you will only need the short version. These I use and have been trouble free.
