I have a 30" cat that I intended to run on 4s with a 150A turbojet cheap ESC. When my 2400kv motor arrived it was actually a 1900kv. It was slow on 4s and temps were very low. New motor from HK takes a while so I tried running on 6s for the time being. Made it to the middle of the pond and then nothing. I'm sure something burnt up! I can smell it. Is there a way to test the motor with a meter? Will the ESC create a voltage with out a motor attached? I have a 2400 kv motor on the way, should I be ordering another ESC and is the seaking 180 a better choice? Ya, it's my first electric boat!

As you discovered, 6S is 'way too much for your setup. The most likely culprit is the ESC, but it could have been the motor or motor wires/connectors. Don't try running the ESC without the motor, it will tell you nothing but could damage it - assuming it is not already hurt. It is never a good idea to run a cheap ESC at its maximum voltage anyway. The Seaking 180A has shown to be pretty reliable and would be a far better choice for a 2400Kv 4S setup. You do realize that the 2400 Kv motor could be too much for your boat don't you? Most run 2000 or 2200 Kv 4S motors in those hulls.

Doing the math, I was aiming for 32000-34000 unloaded. I went high because its a cheap turnigy motor, and I was really disappointed with the 1900kv. Although on 6s, the 1900 was really impressive for the short run it had.
Would the turbo jet have lasted on 4s and 2400kv? How about 2s and a 4400kv in a 30" rigger? I have another on the way from China and would like to use it somewhere.
Thanks for the input. Been running a nitro miss bud and Im finally had enough of the gas!
