Hobbywing / Skywing (rebadged Ez-Run) esc's, any info ???

So I was hopping around last night hoping to luck into a 200A castle hydra plane ESC to put a water cooling block on (yeah right, goof luck I know... ) . I have run a few like this with great results before....

One of the esc's that I ran across, was this 200A Hobbywing / Skywing 2s-6s plane ESC. http://www.ebay.com/itm/121301021047...84.m1423.l2649

All it is, is a rebadged EZ-Run. I have run a ton of their stuff & they used to make top notch stuff, however it's been a while. Has anyone run any products from these guys lately ?.

They also make 100A, 120A & a 150A marine esc's. For $40 I may have to try the 150A in my mm, since its a single 4s-5s setup ??. any experience with these CSCS ?...

pretty sure these are suppo escs and are not to be used to the top of the specs or they will burn

That's what I would generally think, however I can't find a 150A suppo ESC anywhere for c omparison. Maybe their not suppo ?. I was intrigued by the 150A for $40, to possibly run in my mean machine. Its a single 3674 2350kv setup, with an m445 prop on 3850mah 4s1p x2 parallel power.

I have run two 2350kv 3674's on 4s w/ 120A esc's. In this case the motor calls for an 80A esc, but thats a 1/8th scale car rating, not FE. There's also a listing for a 200A skywing boat etc, but it's $98, that's price gouging compared to the other ESC's.

If I wanted to go the 200A route, I would go with the mystery 200A (suppo) for $49.99, which I may just do anyway

Check hobbyking to. I had a 200 suppo and killed it at 120 amps or less in a Elam hydro so that's why I don't think you can push them that hard. I had a 125 also and lasted maybe 20 runs and then burnt for no apparent reason so to me its not if it will burn juast when will it burn jmo

I'm 99.9% sure that Hobbywing has nothing to do with Skywing. And EZRun is Hobbywings bugget line for their ground ESCs, XERun is their Comp Series ground ESCs. Hobbywing's Marine line is Seaking, and they make all of Turnigy's Marine ESCs

Well I passed on the skywing esc's because i am not going to support a price gouger. I ordered the mystery 200A ESC

It's goiing in a sportboat with a 70A motor, and my 4s 30c/60c cells are 0.99A constant / 198A burst. I ran the setup on an 80A ESC for a test run. The ESC & cells were cool, but the motor was a Lil' warm due to the h2o pickup not working right. I think it'll be alright, only time will tell

I read some stuff today while I was researching some esc's. The articles said that there were only 3 mfgr's of rc esc's, and between them they make all the different brands of esc's. There was a product listing for suppo that said they make the hobbyking brand esc's, & I am guessing birdy too,

The reason I purchased the 200A mystery was it has a 5A bec for the reciever. Neither the 200A Hobbyking ss or the birdy for that matter had a bec. I don't need the weight of a reciever battery on top of the two 4s1p series packs I am running......

I have explained this in another thread. It's basically a Suppo or copied Suppo. Suppo was the original producer of these and it's most likely being knocked off by other factories. Skywing, Super Simple, Birdie, etc, etc... are basically the same design, just different amount of FET layers and number of capacitors.

They use a long Discontinued FET that most likely came in 40ft cargo containers along with the capacitors that are most likely seconds or slightly out of spec or also discontinued and bought by the container load.

I have had to clean out several boats from the stink associated with trying to pull close to the 200 amps they advertise.

Here on http://www.suppomodel.com/ you can see what was the original base units. There have been some 150amp versions etc...

One or two people seem to really like them but, I find them only useful for stock motors or they are best suited to Heli Outrunners as they were originally designed for.

Hopefully you will not regret this decision as this was the weakest link in their esc's. This is why hobby king sells the Opto version as it is far more reliable.

You're right Ray, They deffinetly don't make those three, I should have said Hobbywing makes a lot of Turnigy's ESCs not all..

This I did not know ol' wise grasshopper .... I can understand this if you were running a 6s + setup since you have to run opto with high voltage systems or fry the Rx anyway.

Since I am only running an 80A nominal system, hopefully it"all be OK, cause I would hate to add a 5000mah sub c 6v Rx pack., on top of my 4s1p cells.

Gs I believe the problem with most cheap becs were they have some heat dissipation problems you should be ok for a while or you could use a seperate bec

A couple more things are you mat need to check that the motor outputs solder joints dont touch the heatsink so when heated they arc out burning up the esc. Also the fets in the older ones didn't all touch the fets so I personally sanded them flat and seated the water cooler others used thermal epoxy. Just a little heads up
