EagleTree V4 Advice

Gents,

Does anyone have an Eagletree V4 datalogger in thier rig(s)?

Been contemplating getting one because my current wattmeter only logs the highest values for Amps, Watts, Voltage etc. I'd like to know people's opinion on the system. I'm particularly interested in the following:

1) How easy is it to get set up?
2) Is it a permenant fixture in your boat, or do you move it from boat to boat?
3) Do you use any additional connectors to monitor other parameters (rpm, servo, temps?)
4) How is the software, is it a pain to download data?
5) Is the data easily output to excel or how do I see my data throughout the run?

Well, read through the operator manual online. Looks like questions 4 and 5 are pretty straight forward.

I have been running it for years now. There are a few types of rpm sensors(my fav is the Hall effects), a GPS expander is real handi, temp sensor possibly and keep the oak voltage working so you know how low your packs pull down to under load. It moves from boat to boat easily and you can program to keep track of each boat in the logs. It does take a bit to get used to but it sets up easy and just add things as you are comfortable.

I have a V3 not a V4, but:-
1, It is very easy to set up, just fit connectors you use, install the software and tell it what parameters you want to log and the frequency of the logging, go for a run, plug into your PC and download the data to a graph or play it back with gauges.
2, I move it from boat to boat, I use it for the initial setup of a boat and then again if I want to make any significant changes, but most of my running is done without it.
3, I also have the brushless RPM sensor and temp sensors for ESC and Motor, I think v4 has more inputs so I would probably get another sensor for battery temp. Maybe GPS too, if you are thinking of GPS having it in sync with all the other data is by far the most useful utilisation of it.
4, Its very easy, 1 button.
5, I never tried exporting to excel, but I cant imagine it would give you more functionality than the eagletree software has. The only thing I have seen third party software do is some videos where the eagletree gauges were overlayed onto the video so you could see the info and what the model was doing.

Sounds like what I am looking for in terms of data for an entire run, not just the max values.

So the GPS is useful for telling me specific data? For example 60 seconds into a run I'm making a turn, I can kind of pinpoint changes in voltage and amp draw?

I'm using volts, amps, throttle, rpm and speed for prop selection. Max RPM means only one thing - your motor can turn your prop. Say, 447 vs 648 gives me +6mph but current increased from 50A to 110A.
ESC temp also useful, prevent you from cooking :)

Yes. It's up to you to decide what's more important. Also, you can see how pitch & diameter affects current and make a guess about next prop worth to try.

Hint: some ESCs have a built-in data logger, add a standalone GPS and that's enough.

Trying to decide if I need to modify/calibrate my EagleTree over to the 300 amp version. In one boat 150 amps will suffice, but the mono I am building I think I will probably eclipse the 150 amp mark and I don't want to ruin this unit. I might pickup another logger dedicated to the higher amp boat. Thoughts?

Have you considered Hitec telemetry instead of Eagle Tree? I used to use Eagle Tree but changed to Hitec and prefer it. You get all the info on your transmitter or on your laptop. Volts, current, speed, temps etc, and verbally if you have the HTS speaker. The Hitec Lynx4S is the surface version.

Recently put the 150 amp version in a boat, and recorded 168 amps. So maybe it has a safety margin.

Other thing I am struggling with is that my bigger mono will be running 8mm connectors on batteries and esc. Smaller mono runs 5.5 bullets (150 amps or less)

Solder the 8's on the logger, and make a couple of step down adapters.
