    Newby needs help

I am totally new at building boats so I need lots of help. I’ve built a 28” wood Atlas Van Lines style boat. It has a leopard 3650 Motor, a Seaking 120 v3 esc, with a HYPERION G3 CX 5000 MAH 4S 14.8V 25C/45C battery. I’ve tried everything I can think of but the motor seems to be only turning at have speed. Any ideas would surely be appreciated.

I don't own any seaking ESC's but did you calibrate your transmitter to the speed controller? What KV is the motor?? What prop are you using?

I calibrated the transmitter to the esc and beleive it was done right. The KV of the motor is 2090. i have a Octura x642 but didn't know it had to be balanced and sharpened so I ordered another that has had that done. It is on its way. The ESC is a Hobby Wing SeaKing.

        Some easy things to check:
        Battery fully charged and balanced
Prop shaft spins freely by hand with battery disconnected
A couple mm gap between the props drive dog and the strut for flex shaft compression
Check that the flex shaft is the correct wind for rotation

What radio system are you using, and can you upload some pics of your setup?
        This is NOT a toy?!?

when the lvc on the seaking kicks in it reduces the throttle to 50%

I've made sure the battery is fully charged. Not sure what balanced means. The prop spins freely. There is a washer between the drive dog and the strut. Not sure about if the flex is the right rotation. Everything I have in the boat was suggested by Off Shore Electronics but I beleive it is. I'm using a Tactic TTX300 tranamitter and the receiver that came with it.

its worth a try to see if that's whats causing it.
do you have the esc set for forward only.

I just tried running the boat even thought I don't have the balanced prop yet. Frist I found the motor running backwards and I fixed that. But what surprised me was when I first put it in the water I hit full throttle and the motor ran fast but immediately went to no power. Does that tell anyone what the problem might be? I also found that my battery is 14.8 volts but when I charged it the charger said over 16 volts. Could I have fried the battery?

when you say it lost power did it slow down or stop dead.

It slowed down to what I beleive is 50% or less.

that sure sounds like its hitting the lvc.

Set your LVC to 3v per cell. Also there should be a small LED light on the ESC that turns green when getting full throttle. A 4 cell lipo will charge to 16.8v, 4.2v per cell. Balanced means all 4 cells are the same voltage ie. 4.2v . You also need to make sure the ESC timing is set to the correct wind of the motor, D wind 0 - 10 deg timing, Y wind 10 +.
If you don't already have one, get yourself a program box for the ESC, makes life a lot easier

Thanks to everybody for your help. I really learned allot. I went back to square on with everything. Took it all apart and put it back together. My charger has a balance feature so each cell is charged the same. I will look into the program box. Programing the ESC with the transmitter is tedious. Bottom line, I put it all back together and it ran like gang busters. Now I have to learn how to drive it. This thing is really fast. My next goal will be keeping it together. I'm hooked. Not sure what the problem was but it seems to be gone now.
