Degassing a lipo (lol)

So I was wondering if you could degas a lipo. You know, poke a small hole in a puffed one and let the gas out then tape it back up. Sound pretty stupid huh? Well I was reading about it for the heck of it and of course you had some guys say DONT DO IT! IT CAUSE A CATASTROPHE! ITLL BLOW YOUR HAND OFF! OR THE END OF THE WORKD WILL COME! You know, on the Internet you hear all sort of things and you don't know what to believe. Unless your like me and try it for yourself. So I did. Especially after one guy said he poked a needle through a lipo, squuezed the air out and then put a pice of tape over the hole and went about his business. Said the battery had been lasting over a year and wanted to dispel the myth.

So I took a broom handle and affixed a needle in the end of it just barely poking out. Just enough to poke a hole but not go through anything but the wrapper. Then my son and I traveled to a top secret facility in the middle of the desert that tests bomb just incase this atom bomb goes off. Lol. Then I poked a hole in it. Nothing. It did emit a small puff of something. Other than that, I was disappointed. I was expecting a fiery disaster. Watch both videos to see what happens.

Heck yea! I have one of these on the way I just ordered. Maybe CB longs will work in it. I'll have to try.

Yes 10/22. Skeletonized bolt. Custom spring. Fluted stainless barrel. Hogue stock. The skeletonized bolt was to make it super light do it will actually cycle super quit CB longs. That's what was shot in the video. My high powered pellet rifle is louder. Talk about a cool backyard plinker! I mainly keep it in my shop for snakes. It cycles ratshot too.

Ok so no explosion just lots of 'magic' (toxic) smoke. Was that a charged pack?
What I would like to know considering this quote from Revoblends;

Is why some countries cannot get batteries shipped.

WHY can they not use surface mail? Same from Hobbyking. The only way to get any suitable lipos in NZ is from HK Australia and well that is when they are in stock.

So RevoJohn can you give an answer, seeing as I never got any reply to my pm? Any one else? Because it's stopping the growth of FE boating here. All the lipos that are available are for cars and planes/drones and no good for boats.

Yes it was charged. No fire. Just a lot of smoke.

This is going to be my preferred method for disposing of lipos. Much more fun than a salt bath!

I may try it one day on a pack I have but the entry will not be straight down in. I'd do it like getting an IV in your arm.

My guess is the cells should be almost or fully discharged.

Still, seems as bogus as the OP suggests.

I read about this years ago. after poking the hole take a brick to hold the swelling down!
