Motor size/lipo config for this shovelnose

    Hi,
I saw this shovelnose hull form phil thomas:

Hull is 38" long. What motor would be best for this? Also, would a 4S1P config work well? I have a ton of 2S1P packs and am looking for a shovelnose that can use these packs-- I was thinking a 30" hull using a neu 1515 would work well, but i am having a hard time finding a shovelnose hull this size.

    Thanks,
    Chief

Just met Phil the other day (really nice guy ) at a fun run he was ruining that hull with a nitro motor (don't know what size) but he was clocked at 59mph and that thing handled GREAT I would love to have one a1515 1y(2200kv) on 4s 2p I think would move that hull real good maby to good.

What are your expectations for the PT hull? IME using 4S and a 1515 motor would be a mistake if you want much speed, it is too large a boat with too much wetted surface so amp draw would be pretty high and speeds pretty low. A much better choice would be 6S (three 2S packs) with a motor similar to the 1527/1Y (1250 Kv). A Leopard 4082/1250 on 6S2P would probably work okay if you don't have the $$$ for the Neu. A friend has this hull (as yet unbuilt) and it does look sweet in person.

Other shovel hulls which could use the 1515 on 4S:

      1) Classic Hawaii Kai
      2) Classic II

        Thanks Fluid--
I'm trying to hit high 50's to race with a friend who has a 30" insane hydro on 4S1p. I suspected 1515 on 4S would not be enough for this size hull. Thanks for the lead on the Hawaii Kai,

        Chief

This must be a typo. The 1527/.5Y - assuming you can get one - has a Kv of 2500 rpm. Perhaps 1.5Y??

Good catch! Yep, a typo. Should indeed be 1.5Y, 850KV.

              Thanks!!
