Tips for custom ESC & receiver PCBA for RC boat builds

    Hi all,

I work with many RC boat builders who design their own ESC, BEC and receiver boards. A lot of projects work fine on the breadboard but fail under continuous high current on the water, mostly due to poor PCBA choices rather than firmware issues.

A few practical points I’d like to share:
    1. Heavy copper is essential for high-current ESC tracks. 2oz–4oz copper reduces track resistance and overheating, critical for 6S/8S LiPo setups on fast boats.
    2. Thermal pad treatment for MOSFETs: SMT stencil aperture design directly impacts heat transfer. Bad stencil design leads to voids and thermal runaway under full throttle.
    3. Surface finish pick: ENIG is stable for mixed power + RF signal paths on receiver boards; avoid HASL for fine RF traces on 2.4G receiver circuits.
    4. BEC isolation: Separate power ground and signal ground on PCBA to cut servo jitter and receiver noise.
    5. Gerber compatibility: We accept files from PADS and Allegro, which many small RC designers use.

We offer full PCBA service including bare PCB fabrication, component sourcing and SMT assembly for custom RC ESC, receiver, battery monitor and BEC boards, UL & RoHS compliant.
If you are preparing Gerbers and BOM for your next custom boat ESC project, our PCBA checklist for high-current RC applications is here.

Feel free to drop questions about stackup, copper weight, stencil design or small batch lead time. Happy boating!
