    Viper rebuild

Hey guys, just thought I would start this now. I was gonna buy a new hydro hull for the spring but money is kinda tight so Im gonna see if I can rework the Viper hull.

I plan on stripping the paint and decals. I just ordered some blue carbon fiber cloth off of Ebay to reinforce the bottom. I just ordered the Solinger hardware system from Steven.

Gonna run it on 4S with 8XL and Hydra 240. Do you think X642 prop would be ok?

Anyway here is the before photos hopefully it will look better not worse when done.

I believe you will like this hull with the 8xl. I have already tested the Viper 2 hull on 6s with a Feigao 10xl and an Octura M445, M545, x445 and x645. You would be suprised how much these four props act differently. I won't tell you too much tho, but you will be fine with the Hydra 240 on an 8xl with the x642. Just make sure to check temps often at first untill you establish your setup limits.

I have a Viper II and use to run it on an 8XL on 4s1p...
I use to run it on a 637 prop and it was pretty fast w/o the temps...
did I mention it was on a Barracuda 80?
A 642 would be a very fast prop on that setup! A Hydra 240 would be
      a good choice.
      :::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::

I used to run a hydro of similar size on a 7xl with a hydra240 and a trick little x642 with no problems at all and it was super quick.

Cool sounds good. Thanks guys. One other question does anyone know of a good way to remove a piece of wood that has been put down with JB weld? I was gonna try working it down with a dremel but man thats gonna take a while. Also I need a nice turn fin anyone got any suggestions? I had the fullers carbon fiber one but they have since discontinued it. I lost mine due to a mishap with a submerged log.

I would cut at the block with a disc cutter, removing the bulk of it, than sand smooth.

I agree with Steven about the cutting disc. The turnfin of my choice is the grimfin by aquacraft. My opinion is that it's a little too wide so I cut it back a little and also straightened out the hook in it just a tad so it still turns well but dosen't suck the sponson down too much. I would get the grimfin and tweek it to your hull's liking.

Alright I'll try the cutting disc. I have an Aquacraft turn fin but thought it was too large. I will cut it down while I have the disc out. Thanks guys

TTH, do you suggest running rudder on the right or left? Thanks

I prefer to run the rudder on the left side because I turn right ( more frequent than left hopefully ) It helps the boat be more stable because of the rotation of the prop, counterclockwise. The only hydros I have seen with right mounted rudders are 1/10 scale but they have left sponson mounted turnfin and they also turn in left hand ovals.

                        Drive line layed out

Got the Solinger hardware holes drilled and stuffing tube just set in place. Nothing secure yet. Waiting on the carbon cloth for the bottom and the temps to come up some so I can paint the thing. The wife does not like the fumes much in the back bedroom.

Anything else new? I hate to sound anxious but I absolutely love these hulls. In my opinion there is nothing better or nicer looking.
