    Plywood for boat building... Q's

So the price of birch plywood is insane and I bought what seems to be a deal on Amazon.ca. It said Midwest 12" x 24" x 1/32" ply - 6 pieces - $26.00 Cdn. Usually a single sheet is $20 + tax. Maybe it was a misprint?

Is Midwest ply birch any good? What are good quality ply manufacturers?

Where are people buying from? In Canada?

    Tia!

Pretty sure Midwest have been making plywood for a long time for the plane guys. Any I have seen looked like good quality stuff.

Midwest is not a manuf. of birch ply. The ply is imported from Europe by the suppliers. Aircraft Spruce also sells ply.

But, back in the day, Midwest was about the best at the hobby stores.

When I started in boat hobby, Sig was the seller to get wood from. That's back in the 70"s.

I know. once I bought it then it was gone. It's on it's way here now. Must have been the last batch they had. I hope I actually get 6 sheets, lol..

Where do you get plywood if you aren't using all composites now?

Would the Spruce be what is determined as 'aircraft grade' and not really suitable for our boat building needs?? I don't want to but some wood that's unsuitable for skinning boats.

The ply from Aircraft Spuce is a/c grade wood.

Have you tried National Balsa? They show it in stock but shipping is costly.

                              Min. order is $25. I put in an order for $26.( 15 pieces - 1/8" X 1/8" x 48" spruce)
And they want $42. for shipping

That is $68. USD witch will cost me $88. CAN.

                              I don't think so.
