Thanks for the info, I am going to try both...... Raydee's and Zip kits. It is part of the learning thing.

Randy,
Take a look at the fins that Mojo Racing carries. Really nice stainless fins. Thin, sharp and stiff. Mike at ML boats supplies them for some of his boats as well. I think they're from the same guy. I can't remember his name.

That's the only fin I run on anything. The ML fin and the one from Mojo come from the same shop.Originally posted by bob horowitz View PostRandy,

I just bought one and it arrived today! Would appreciate any building tips you have as this will be my first wooden boat RC build. I'd really like to build it to look more scale-ish...kinda like the one on their website that looks like the Tide boat. What glue should I use...epoxy?

I really like fiberglass boats better a lot easier. with that said glad I got my Whip . I do enjoy it and learned a lot building it. Use epoxy every where you can, CA will break under hard shock. look at the building board I made. The nose is the hardest to keep square.Originally posted by InspGadgt View PostI just bought one and it arrived today! I built my last fiberglass boat decades ago when I was still in grade school. Back then I had a hard time getting the radio box to stay glued to the fiberglass even with epoxy. So I decided to try a wooden hull for this build. in the future I hope to be making 3d printed hulls but I'll need to learn 3d CAD first. I'm already 3d printing RC airplanes from 3dlabprint.com and given how well those work I really think it could work well for boats too. But that's a long way off yet for me...got a lot of learning to do first.

FYI to make epoxy stick it is necessary to scuff the surface with sand paper.

How's your build coming? Have you finished? I've got my framing done and am about to start with the bottom skin. But looking at the FG cowl that came with the boat I'm thinking on using a different one or making my own. The stock one isn't flat...is there any way to get rid of the warp?

Yes I finished the boat early this year and have raced it most of the year until I got in my bike accident.Originally posted by InspGadgt View PostHow's your build coming? Have you finished? I've had good success with this fin designed by Raydee, (a member here on Offshore) on small to medium hydros. The size can be scaled up or down Slightly.

All the road rash and cuts healed. My shoulder is not much better. I go in for a MRI Friday. I have to lift my right arm with my left hand to elevate it.
