42" deep vee dual voltage? flood chamber?

OK first post for me guys so GO easy.
I guess I been on a break for a long time but I finally pulled out a 42" that I been holding on to (for the last 20 years) and was going to get a gas motor back into it but now I have a clear vision of my end result but larger issue is can I set up for dual usage. IE looking to get this back together so I can wrap it up as a gift for my son to use or is it easier to just put together a ARTR for him to use and set this back up for myself.
Lots of items for me to figure out.
First up, I already started on the 42 and starting to look at a HK ARTR like the 34" outlimits if my below idea is out of bounds.
Second, I will want to make both boats with flood chambers. I would use in bays and a good size rough on week ends lake so either boat would have a good chance of getting tossed sooner or later.

My thoughts were if I can run the 42 on dual voltages say 4s and 8s (or similar idea) with a sizable motor and ESC. so depending on who is running it I can make an easy switch between parallel or serial between batteries and maybe a prop if needed. Then one boat could fit different driving skills, no racing just sport. Just dont know if a motor and ESC would work well with this thought process of mine. My old habits on electric boats will most likely not work today as I use to just remove the old slide and just attach a switch to my throttle on or off simple but also only had single phase options so alot has changed since I last fooled around with rc's

My old hull is 42" x 9"+/- sorry did measure but now don't remember exact beam. 20deg deadrise at transom 7.5lbs empty. Not sure of manufacture maybe a dumas or aeromarine has the old school apache scheme Don Anorow (RIP) type design. I would most likely follow Gyrotrons build and I have most of the running gear needed from the gas motor and if I stick with a 56mm motor barrel I can keep my .25 flex and stinger. I know this hull is on the heavy side but its strong. Back in the day it had dual nitro's and I am a big fan of retro rides so this will just follow suit.

I did split the hull and deck already so I could set up the flood camber full length and once remated if I need to adjust chamber size I could do it from the engine compartment quite easily.

Any help or suggestions with this or if anyone has done a flood chamber on the HK outlimits please feel free to give me some addition direction.

    Thanks for your time.

I setup an old Graupner hull with a series /parallel switch on a servo back in the brushed days so I know what you are after. If the ESC runs on 'auto detect' you should be fine with that in today's brushless world. The hard part is picking a KV that will suit the two voltages and your driving requirements. A castle 2028 may be a goo choice at 730kv. These big motors shouldn't be spun above 30,000rpm.
I recently finished this 40" old gas hull

For a 'flood chamber' I assume you are after self righting, I have not really found this to be an issue on the larger hulls. But is you do I think the chamber needs like 30% volume of the hull.

Or a tall hatch to trap air up high like the Danvo mono's of 15 years ago.

        Hi
Thanks for the replies I decided to go the outerlimits route first and see how I make out while figuring out a good set up plan for my 42.
This way one boat for my son and one for me and setup for each of us.

Protues motor X524 https://www.rocketcityracing.com/car...ategory_id=322 you can run this on say 6s and 10s with a Swordfish 240amp ESC

thanks for the reply I saw someone else's build using this motor and very similar boat size and should be similar in weight.

I am still waiting for the arrival of the HK outerlimits but at least they show it as shipped or I should say HS it took them 8 weeks to put a label on the box. So this is going to be a longer process than I hoped for.

OK as I move along on my HK outerlimit I finally settled on a set up for my 42 mono. Hopefully its a good direction for me.

I have the following so far.

my 42" mono old school hull (working on flood chamber too)

              dual SSS 4074 motors
              dual 40mm mounts
              dual 180 turnigy ESC's
              dual 110mm stingers
              counter rotating flex cables
one big rudder, tabs, turns and some misc items.

              no batts or props.

cl of shafts are 54mm (2.125")

so I could use some suggestions for batts and props pro or con I can take it. and yes I am still very after having this flip over too.

Do you guys think I will be exceeding 50mm props? 2 or 3 blade? I can add 3 to 4 mm spacers between the mounts to open up CL to 58mm if larger props are needed, but would like to keep them as close as possible to keep them as low as possible too.

110 mm stingers put me right at 10% of boat length. I can add 6 to 10mm alum spacer to increase stingers if its better to run them farther out.

I am thinking 4s for batts and some good suggestions here would help before I purchase any. I can run one per ESC or 2 parallel per ESC. also better to keep things separate or does any one run batts into a power bank and have both ESCs pull from bank? I can get the 5800mh 4s revos or would it be better to parallel up 2 sets of 3600 or 4200 if its better.

I am thinking 4s as it puts me at 32,500 rpm range.

Any help will be helpful to me.

              Thanks Mark

In the above post I have a pic of mine. I run it primarily on 442mm props=50mph. I recently tried a pair of ABC 1815's(46mm) and holy carp. I am going to say mid 60's. I run twin TP 4074 1150kv's on 8s, 2 4200mah per motor/ESC. Hull is 40".
The boat will handle better with the smaller props. I don't think you will need 50mm props and they will want to push the hull straight when you want to turn.

Do you have a build thread on your boat I can snoop through?
                  and thanks for the info.

oh one more question what does your boat weight out at with all components?

I'll have to get back at you with with that one Mark.

Well I weighed her up. Fully loaded ready for water is just shy of 14.5 lbs(6567grams), without batteries is 10.5lbs(4757 g)
