Yes it was a fiberglass hull, I'm still on the fence with the f/g vs c/f hulls. Joel had done the inlay on that hull and she took one hell of a beating all last summer and always came back for more. I did have a couple gelcoat issues and a couple stress cracks but nothing major. After having my Rivercat in c/f and seeing how thin the c/f hulls are I'm not sure that a c/f Daytona could take the beating that my f/g hull did. I guess I will find out with my new hull, it's c/f and I'll reinforce her good.

At the trials we waited around all weekend to get some flat water. When it was almost dark Sunday we finally got decent conditions and I think Keith and I just kind of went for it lol. I made a couple passes and trying to up my backup at the end of the run she smacked hard. It was one of those one hit thuds that you know something bad happened lol. The boat didn't flood thanks to hatch tape, and all electrics were fine, but the hull didn't fair too well. She's stashed away and maybe someday I'll get her back in the water for sentimental reasons lol!

Hitting peak speed on a GPS for a split second compared to holding that speed for a 1/16th of a mile is a big difference. I hit 106 with her a few times on the gps
But only mustered 99.778 thru the traps. That was .005 seconds from 100 lmao

I've had some hard hits with my rivercat and even tho cf is this, it does not Crack or break as easily as fg. I have lots of reinforcement in mine and it weight almost 9 lbs so that's probably at to do with the strength of mine. The whole front is filled with two part foam, the sponsons are flooded with epoxy, and so are the tips, tunnel and transom. The daytona is dome even better than my rivercat. I can't say much about gps vs trap speeds but I will tell you most of my runs aren't a split second peak speed, I hang on to it for a bit at full speed....Here's a perfect example

If strength is the only consideration Kevlar or fiberglass are best. Carbon fiber is the lightest and stiffest material, however it is also brittle. This is why builders of full size high performance boats use carbon fiber with Kevlar. Really, after all the reinforcing we do on the Chinese CF hulls we lose the weight advantage of using carbon fiber. We would be better off with a quality fiberglass hull like MHZ builds.

I cant disagree there but honestly i'm ok with the little extra weight.

I bought a c/f hull to try and lighten my setup a little bit, my old hull weighed in at 12 lbs(twin) And I wasn't trying to start a debate in your build thread man lol. I am just saying we hit a peak speed and it drops, I don't want to clutter your build thread with log pics. But if I hit the first light at 105, I don't think I am hitting the second light at 105, I can see the rpm drop if anything else in logs. Was just trying to share my experience with this hull was all...

no debate here, just good info. everyone has their own personal preference and nothing is wrong with that. My main reason for carbon fiber is its looks, i love the look of carbon!

Got some done last night. Mainly worked on the cheetah. I put the 2 part foam up front and finished wiring up the esc then I powered it up and programmed it. Basically I'm waiting on my through hull water fitting fit the water line. I have a couple odds and ends left but I'll probably have most done this evening. Check out this ugly contraption..... I guess it dont matter what it looks like as look as it does the job and it will be covered anyways. Funny still.

Travis, That don't look bad. The only thing I see is. I like to leave a little more wire on the motor side in case something happens you still have some wire to play with.

What is the red wire for? Isn’t the other rx wire for data logging?

True. I just didn't have anywhere to stuff extra wires, especially with Those super stiff wires.

What is on the cooling can then? Where is the temp gauge? I was looking forward to seeing that. I love how you have hidden the water lines and the wires. Beautiful build..

Thanks! That's really think carbon fiber sheet with 3m adhesive on three back. There is a seam at the bottom and it's epoxied together. I'm on the fence about the gauge. I cannot flush mount it. The screen and circuit board is seperate and have to to be lined up perfectly to connect. I'm going to explore some other options.

Little update. Got the rudder reshaped and sharpened. I also drill the break away hole bigger and rethread it for a bigger nylon screw. I learned my lesson with my rivercat is why I do that.

Got the steering completed. It all hooked up and operational. Everything seems to work fine. I think my collet will be here tomorrow, I'm not making the shaft or stuffing until it gets here.

                                Steering hooked up.
