Actually that is the famous (over here) Taipan turn fin. I have several and I guess Andy would have a box full of them.

Hi guys,
when i unpacked the XS3 i thought the same thing "damn the turn fin is bent"
after i checked the fastelectrics site i knew it was how it was ment to be.

Paddy, Andrew certainly knows brushless setups in any form.I race a 1/8 offroad buggy powered by a neu( 3.3kg @74kph ),and ALL my heli's have neu aswell and his input has given me unbelievable performance.
This is the reason i bought a XS3 powered by NEU and built by Andrew.
Im building a Delta force 33 powered by neu and supplied andrew built by me.

Im running 3 degrees sponson angle and the strut at 13mm and im getting a little tail hop, not coming out the corner but from half way down the straight until i turn in. Any ideas??

Are you getting tail hop with the M447? How bad is the hop? What is your strut angle?
When ever I have had this tail hop problem I get two things thrown at me.
1. Add a little weight in the tail.
2. Set the strut angle to 0 or even so it pulls the prop down to the water. That would mean only angle the strut by 1 or 2 degrees so it makes the prop pull down and not push the tail up. You do not want it to pull the transom too hard or you will lose speed.
I try to go the strut angle way as adding weight in the transom also changes the CoG.
You could also talk to a guy like Andym about props. Andy lives in Broken Hill and has a good understanding of what a prop is doing. He has had several riggers and has a good knowledge of rigger setup.
BTW Andrewg built my first Xzess 2 rigger and it is still going like a champion and often gives me a new best speed as I experiment with it. I guess it is about 3 years old now and has had several major crashes and fires but survived them all to come back stronger and faster than ever.

the prop im running is a detounged M447 as recomended by andrewG,seems to pull this prop with ease.the strut is at 0 degrees also where are you running your CoG?? my zippy lipos are heavier than the slightpower(flightpower) packs i have and seemed not to hop as much.i would like to get a few modded props for Mr Krabs and my Zenoah powered tunnel

My CoG is all over the place. Until I got my new battery I could not get the front sponsons to stop running wet so my CoG was moved back. With my new battery the CoG needs to be moved forward as just a little acceleration is lifting both sponsons clear of the water. I think with riggers we can start out running the CoG where it should be and then study how the boat is traveling on the water. If it runs wet on the sponsons then move the CoG back, and vice versa if it is lifting the sponsons too much or blowing over. Every hull will be slightly different unless two exact copies of the boat are made. Riggers need to travel lightly on the water but not blow over. My CoG is no secret and I will post it when I finally settle on where it should be for this battery.

The maiden run for the XS3, I used to think this pond/lake was big enough for my boats UNTIL i got the XS3.
this setup is straight out of the box from AndyG running a M447 and Zippy flightmax 4S 5000 30c ( the first run on the data logger graph posted above)
ill try some negative on the strut to stop the hop.
the 2nd run was with a flightpower 4S 4500 30c(started to run hard after the 2nd lap- cells warming up)
Im very happy with my first FAST electric boat just need to tweak it a little.

Thanks Paddy - that boat rips but I feel it could do better. If you can get rid of the hop you will realize a much better speed.. Make sure the strut is level on a setup board and maybe raise it up a bit.

I think he is running the strut at 13mm. I am left wondering if it is bouncing on the small shoe (Carlson or Carolson shoe? Someone help with the name and spelling please) in the disturbed water. I would drop the strut or put a little negative angle on it. Whatever the answer is you can bet I will be wrong though
