After reading your comments I guess you have one choice. Drill two more holes in the flex shaft end of your coupler and then tighten all your grub screws up as tight as you can. I have been known to get a real bend in the Allen Key while doing the screws up. Use Loctite on all your grub screws on the drive shaft from the motor back to the prop nut. I have never had a prop nut come undone but I have taken note of what Viking said and will use a little Loctite there also from now on.
You may have some handling issues with a flat CF turn fin. I have a flat one on one of my Xs 2's and it does not turn left well without sitting the boat on the water, prop side up.The other Xs2 has one with a curved bottom and it turns both ways well. Try to get used to going clockwise around your pond and it should be ok. BTW I have used and recommend Vikings wheel collar idea.

One thing that is important to do is to have the motor free spin when you let off the throttle. Set up your SC to do this if you have any brake in the throttle it will do all kinds of damage. Flat spots for the grub screws are mandotory. I have not lost a flex shaft in a long time. allso I use silver solder on the end of the flex shaft to keep it from un winding and to give good bite for the grub screws on the shaft.

Thanks Randy. I have never used silver solder so I have a question. What do you use to melt the silver solder.

I would think set screws (grub screws to some) at 90 degrees would cause even more vibration. I would put them at 180 degrees and make sure that the flex is a good tight fit as to keep it centered. Have you checked the coupling to make sure the holes are concentric (no run out) and it may not be a bad idea to check to see if it was balanced just like one would do with a prop.

I use natural oxigen and acetylene in a tank. Borax flux and Harris 56% silver brazing alloy.

Hi Slim and you too Xz;
That black mess, that doesn't want to come out is the remains of the Eagle Tree magnetic rpm sensor, The wheel collar has the tiny magnet glued into a hole in the collar opposite the set screw. I got the RPM sensor a little too close to the collar and the set screw ate it ! I don't know what it was made out of but I can't get it off the hull.
Slim if you are worried about the set screw deforming the flex shaft tin the shaft with silver solder.
I can solder copper pipes all day and not have a leak, but I have a hard time with the flex shafts and silver solder. I solder my prop shafts onto the flex cable myself (Great Grand Dad came over from Scotland) and have had some failures . A small butane torch (under $25.00) available at home improvement stores here, will do a very nice job. Trying to put solder on a flex shaft is like asking the worm to get on the hook. I noticed that the end of the flex was nicely tinned after being soldered in to the prop shaft, SO, I drilled a hole in the end of a piece of 0.50 (1/2") Aluminum rod deep enough to tinn what I wanted of the shaft. I cut up some solder and put it in the hole ( rod held upright in my hobby vice) applied flux to the shaft and heated the rod with the torch, then I inserted the shaft into the hole with the melted solder. SLOWLY any moisture or oil might bubble out pushing the molten metal out before it. OUCH. Leave the shaft in there for a few seconds so it gets hot and takes the solder. When you take it out wipe it with a rag quickly and you have a lovely silver shaft.
DO NOT do this wearing shorts. When the lovely molten solder bubbles up out of the rod ,it then is affected by gavity and begins to fall, should this liquid metal fall onto your hairy leg it will stick to the hair and ouch. I have the scars to prove it.

Andrew, (please note the proper use of his name) I would love to visit the barren continent. I actually had a chance when I was 21 years old...job and all, but turned it down for the frozen north...you can see I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer!
The problem, as I perceive it, is Paddy. What is his background, as he seems to have this vengeance against all manner of birds, especially THE DUCK.
