Well Simon it sounds like you are on to something, and after you get that fixed maybe all you'll have left is a minor adjustment and one fast CanardPeter Eells; Fun, and Helping others To Have Fun!!!

That one majical adjustment is a little way off yet.
After a serious cut and glue session the setup is quite different.
There is now 3 deg AoA on the sponsons
The tail has been raised so that the tub is now flat and this gives me a flat tunnel roof with a small ramp into it.
The excessive lift in the rear is now gone but the frontal high speed yaw oscillation has returned.
Options to reduce this are:
1. Move CoB forward to load the nose
2. Set the strut to 2 deg neg to load the nose, this may lift the rear too.
3. Rebuild the nose sponson with a deep vee
4. Run the strut further out the back.
I am still dubious about fitting a fin on the nose sponson but if all of these other options do not do the trick then that is at least another option.
It is fast, but can be faster.

ED I have now made a longer strut standoff and the drive dog is 100mm aft of the sponson line. I had a crap plastic 431 on there as all of my better plastics are now residing in the bin or at the bottom of the lake.
As an aside I now believe that my props are actually blowing apart as opposed to hitting debris, therefore it is time for me to get a proper metal prop and learn how to balance and sharpen them. A 430 is first, then onto a 632.
Now for this new setup on the Canard with the longer tail.
Acceleration from launch is still wild.
Top end is down because I have yet to tune to this new stut position.
The longitudinal stability has very much improved, the fast yaw oscillation is still visible but does not appear to cause stability issues as it did before.

I have been running this hull and tuning it while I do more research on Cat designs. I have a cat too and use the pair to compare strut settings and handling changes.
Now that I have the drive dog well aft of the rear sponson line it is more stable in a straight line.
Raising the strut to get the prop looser has worked well.
Not surprisingly the cat and Canard bothe responded the same to an increase in prop dia with a corresponding rise in strut height. Speed went up, temps went down and I am happy.
I will not be pushing to get more pace out of my existing hull as I believe it is too small to go any faster. It is now outrunning my cat and making ground on the Hydro, the rigger is still well ahead.
My mission in Canards is accomplished for me.
I wanted to see if a Canard is faster than a rigger given the same power and approximate size.
For me it is not.
It is still a royal hoot to drive and will come with me to the lake often.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

I Know how you feel when you are finally happy with the complete package & say to yourself " that's it time to move on to the next project".
Be prepared however to revisit the model when you have a few lipos & brushless motors lying around that you've bought for new projects. Trust me, you won't be able to stop yourself.
Congratulations on a great project.
If you're still "looking for the next weird hull shape" check out the M-80 Stiletto.
The M shape hull creates lift from its own wake.
I fully intend to build a scale model one day but I also think it might make an interesting fast electric concept.

This morning I taped on a pile of weight up front to keep it down and I was amazed to see that the front step still ran dry but the whole hull was more stable. This is the first time that I have adjusted the weight for nearly a year !!
This hull is now up to the front row of hulls (up to 7) that come to the pond once a week.
Now the weight has been fitted properly inside the hull, we'll see what it thinks of a 7S motor. An extra 600kv should make things real interesting.
Power and prop size the same, this is a rigger chaser at the moment............that may change

Canard vs bouy.............
It was fair screaming along and this bouy just jumped out in front of it.
Not the best result. I don't think even a grp hull would have survived that hit.
I managed to drive it in and then watch the wreckage float away down the pond to end up in the rushes at the end.
