@Steve, looks impressive. But I didn't have any at 10pm!!! and bending a 100mm tube with 1mm wall between two fingers was not gonna happen!! Flame was the more creative way! if the brass got soft, there is the carbon to support ... she'll be fine LOL

You can reharden the brass by heating it and dipping it in water.

LOL, funny you say that I used a saturated cloth to cool them down real quick I didn't do it to harden the brass but rather to pull it out of the drill lol

Heating and quenching brass will still render an annealing effect, it doesn't harden it. It will be softer, but still plenty strong for our use. It's fairly common practice to heat/anneal drive tubes before bending, so there's no need for hardening.

@ Keith, If we needed to harden the drive tubes on our boats would be a worry, its really only there to guide the cable into the drive. Anything beyond that is only bling! ...
I'm liking the HPR your doing atm, and the L/R cooling cans are the $hit!! been forever trying get some of the overseas guys to produce. would really make life just a tiny bit happier.

Hello All,
The build is slowly coming together, and I'm at a point where I really want to get a paint job done, but not sure if even possible before Xmas Grrrrr. Got the whole drive system complete. and will be onto the rudder shortly. Waiting for hydraulics from Germany so fingers X'ed they will be here before Xmas. Again sorry about the images, by the time I get to work on the boat its way too dark and iPhone struggle.

Slowly progressing.... the pickups and stuffing tube supports have now been glued in. And the area near the pickup where I have to cut the teardrop have also been reinforced to make the hull thicker. The areas for the pickups are so tight, that I had to drill the hole from the inside of the hull to make sure it would fit. I placed the aluminium tube where it had to be "would fit" and used a smaller drill bit that fitted through the tube so I didn't scratch the hull or stuffing tube. The left hand side has less carbon on the hull so there is a couple of mills, but on the right hand side both tunnel and stuffing tube is touching the water inlet. For that reason I couldn't go any further back with the hole as well, as there was simply no room. measurements are about 8mm from the sharpest point of the sponson and 35mm from where the drives exit. Over all I'm pleased with the outcome.

Very nice! Gotta love those tubes in carbon!
Kent see how you have a little bit of Teflon liner sticking out, on mine i cut them flush.. Is there any reason i shouldnt have done this? Ive never run Teflon before so im not really in the know about it..

I like the flush look for sure, but I don't have the prop shaft in yet so not sure how much I need to cut off. I may leave 3mm so you can easy pull them out if you have to. I think either way Ryan will do. My HPR had them flush, these here may end up flush. Dunno yet lol

I had a little more time, so I cut the "teardrops" for the intakes and gave everything another thin layer of epoxy for waterproofing and final shine. Got a couple of pictures also in daylight. At the moment I'm measuring up for the main feature and making sure it all fits the way I want it. Will most likely cut everything in composite panels to make sure it all comes together before I cut the carbon.

this is such a beautiful, clean and perfect build...so clean, I love that. When I grow up, I will build boats so cleanly...like this :)

just one question...position of your water pickup...I think it would not be of any difference if water pickup would be positioned more laterally...on the other side of stuffing tube...would be?

that area, laterally of stuffing tube is also all the time in water...no matter what speed...if not, the boat is probably in the air and flying :)

I'm just thinking, you can avoid such tight positioning...what do you say?
