Xcesive8,
Yes...I usually use hatch tape every time...especialy when I plan to drive fast or at the sea on bigger waves.
As this was first time the boat went to water...I had to check it often and open the hatch a few times during this first ride...to check temperatures of possible water leaks.
So that was the reason not to use hatch tape.
No, there was no water in the hull at all after this drive. This was slow and done carefuly. If I would plan to go fast I will use it because...a lot more splashing and possible turn overs...
Once you get some air under the hull she will handle turns unbelievably well.
This is a beautiful build and will surely give you a ton of enjoyment this summer!
Yes, I have noticed that...more slowly I drive less my rudder inputs have effect on turning...and also, when I turn at low speed she leans to one side much more than when she goes faster...probably that's because...when you drive slowly more boat mass is under the water...and also, at slow speed less water runs by the rudder so turning action is lazy...correct me if I understand that wrong.
But I was terrified when that huuge thing went into water...that has to have 30 kg with batteries...and I was driving veeeery slowly and with care.
Next time I will go a step further...
I am always very careful first time...and I believe that is a good practice. Every time I overlook something...for example this time one coupler was loose ...and on other shaft my prop was also a bit loose...so I am careful because I know myself. That's like I'm giving me a second chance to fix everything I overlook for the first try
It looks good.
But i cant under stand you dare to drive it without tape to get it watertight.
Its your only garanty if you like your elektronics to keep working.
I hope you have boiiency material on board to match its total weight.
Last but not least why dont you have skrews to hold your hatch down in case of a blow over.
With the kind of speeds and weight a view small pinns in the front wont hold it in place for sure.
they will brake away quite if you will have a blowover and the water will hit you deck/hatch.
hope you take my advise serious , i have been runnig this kind of boats for a long time and have seen to many people making the same mistaks .
Costing them unnessesary money.and lots of it .
Id did some calculating and came to aprox 28000
I know my mono wich is not running so fast as a cat with a 3060 and 25000rpm runs 105 kmh with a x460 4min on 2x10s5000
So 28000 rpm and a 6518 TWO blade wil give aprox 160 kmh so a three blad will give atleast 180 kmh
And these speeds are probably on the low side .
My advise would be start with x470 props. And go from there.
so please screw your hatch down
For handeling the mystic is very good, you are gona love it.
Driving it slowly is not so good it needs some speed to get on its sponsons , then its on rails
Here is my 138 mystic on her second run . 28000 rpm with only 55mm 1,3 pitch props running over 100 kmh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj3uZ...e_gdata_player.
Rscheffer,
Of course I will take your advice seriously...why wouldn't I :)
So...you say the pins in front of the hatch are no good...would it be better if I put the same locking devices from MHZ to the front of the hatch as I have on back part?
And...yes, I always use hatch tape...just didn't do it yesterday
Thanks
-agree with Ramon on hatch lock, either use more screws or if you want to go with the devices from MHZ use six of them in total. And remember, those are not waterproof either so completely tape them over.
-disagree with Ramon on the props, starting with X470 is in my eyes bonkers, I'd start with some simple X457's bored to 1/4" DogDrive.
This is a video of my HPR 233 electric, it has basically the same setup as your MHZ 185, just I'm using Schulze 40.160 instead of your MGM 400's and a 12S3P setup per motor. In the beginning of the video I'm just running X457's, in the end a rougher conditions a set of X470 cut 60mm from Andy Brown, with such props we measured it at over 145km/h.
Best use skrews on such. Big hatch 8 of them .Best use these kind.http://www.fietspunt.nl/nl/bout-m5x2...-25-stuks.html
Just glue a aluminium plate (say 15 mm wide and 40 mm long, so it has som beef) 4 ore 5 mm thick under your deck edge where your holes wil come .
Make some putty(epoxy with Small cut pieces and cotton flocks ) and put that under your hatch edge where your holes wil come.
Dril a hole throu your hatch edge straight throu your deck edge and the aluminium plates. Ca 4 mm .
Then cut thread m5 ( of course we use metrical masurements over here) in the dech edge al the way in the aluminium..
Then take a big drill bit ore special tool and make v shape hole in youre hatch so that the bold/skrew is perfect plat to the serface of your hatch.
Now you can scure youre hatch and tape right over the bold to make it watertight.
The mhz locks grab under your hatch opening and will still come loose by the enormous forces .
Id the x470 are not the ideal props to start.
If you want good props these are in my opinion One the best props to start. they are stainless and when on stock are also available in 67 mm pitch is 1.3 . (selling from germany)
They run great and have a good overall preformance.
I run them in 55 and 61 mm on my 3060 lehner mono where the 61mm gives 106 kmh at 25000 rpm almost identicle as my x460 .
If you want octura's x470 to be cut down and prepped you can get them by DASBOTA in the usa, he is on Jimsdock
Fast service and good quality.
Greats Ramon

Thanks Manuel for guidence and good info. Your experience is always priceless.
Thanks
Scond test run...this time no more loose couplers...
Very windy, choppy water...that was a bit difficult. But, the worst thing was...many kids came to train sailing on the lake, so I had to be very careful...and that is complicated if you want to test speed with an almost 30kg boat that goes fast like a lightning...
run time...cca 12 min
Fastest passes...1/2 throttle, no more. Runs cool. Batteries temp OK, motor temp OK, ESC temp OK. Props 6518/3
