You should be able to cut and refiberglass canopy so that it will tape easy...this will not be easy. Interested to see what you come up with.

I'll save that for a winter project :-). It's going to be raced against the gas hydro's in 3 weeks, so will spend the time getting it tuned.

First shakedown run done! I used a PWW 6516/3 365 and it topped out at 68. Taping wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Had to use a couple small pieces around the bump out, but it worked. Boat came in bone dry. I'll try and get the wife to video it this evening.

Be careful Oscar...that racing thing is not easy...being tall in stature helps lots...i am not so lucky.

:-) Yeah it can be nerve racking, I'm finishing my 2nd year. Had my share of hitting and being hit! From Brian's dad, "The engine mounts were moved back 1 1/2" and the radio box back 4 1/2". All of the outside measurements and angles are the same." Also there are a few mods made to internal structure one being the cross brace against the front bulkhead as seen in the first set of pics I posted.

Here's a non-hd video. I redid the stuffing tube yesterday and didn't get the strut back right, so it's hopping. And I've got a 40 size turn fin on till the gas one gets here. This run was 2:20 and the lipos had 28% left. I'll need to get to the race pond sometime next week so I can keep it open.

When the Backlash first came out I did hear complaints of hull running too wet with some builds. Back then you could fix it by gluing on steep ride pads. Now i see they moved COG back more with V3 version to correct problem.

Oscar, if your Backlash is stern hopping....you can move COG more rearward to correct. If your Backlash grabbing or hopping on sponsons ...you can also move COG more rearward and/or run Strut less deep to correct. But you know this...

When building a FE Whiplash, most people build in COG too far forward.

I love both the whiplash and the backlash. I am looking for a high quality, fast sport hydro. The fit and finish appear excellent. I am sure most of it comes down to builders attention to detail, in your guys
experience which kit on the market offers the best finished result. I am looking for a complete kit, by that I mean all.wood including skins. The backlash may be a little large. I already have a HV boat to builld and it has been reasonably done cost wise until it came to batteries. A 10s 2p setup for it x 3 again so I can get 3 runs in is where it gets ridiculous. Which kit (if possible) could run a 6s (1pI if possible) setup. I have learned a lot about monos, a little about cats very little about hydroplanes. I have been looking but when I saw this build I just have to have one. If you could lend your experience and point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. If there isn't anything that is high quality that will run on 6s I am still open to other setups. Sorry about jumping in here like this but it seemed an ideal opportunity to get the proper information based on what people are and have run. Ideally I would leave
this boat in finished wood trim. Thanks again for any help you can offer. I think this has given me hydro fever! Jeff

Not a problem Jeff. The Sport 40 whiplash and the ML Boatworks hydros run very well on 6s. I have a 40 whiplash and love it! I've raced it with 6s1p 6600 Thunder Power, but prefer 10k for the extra weight. The good thing about building yourself is you can customize it how you want it. Both the Blazer and ML's come with all needed except epoxy and foam.
