First time boat builder looking for help with rudder and servo

If anyone can take a look at this picture and help me understand how the connecting rod is supposed to pass through the transom and operate the rudder. The way it is shown, the rod would move front to back and also move side to side and require a very elongated hole through the transom. I'm not sure how that boot would work in an elongated hole. Also the hole would be through the cut-out in the rudder mount area where it fastens to the transom. There doesn't seem to be enough space for the side to side travel of the rod.

Put a step bend in the rod at both ends so it gets around the mount and there's not going to be as much side to side movement as you think. You make the hole for the big end of the boot and that's how the rod will have enough room to move. You need to get the boots with a bigger transom end on them.

Just bend a slight offset in the rod, between the transom and rudder. Very common in a lot of builds...
