general rules for rudder size ??

I am building my first boat from a bare 33" deep vee hull and would like to use a set of supervee hardware I have but due to my inexperience I'm not sure if the hardware is appropriately sized for the jump from 27" supervee to 33" hull.It all seems to fit the TLAR method but before I drill holes I'd like to know I am going in the right direction.Rudder is 4" long end to end with 3" below the hinge.
Any tips or things to look out for while getting everything to fit correctly the first time would be appreciated
I did use the search function btw and if there's an all in one thread on setting up a new boat from a bare hull I'd surely appreciate a link.I did see Steve Vacarros (sp?) excellent sticky but the one question it didn't answer unless I missed it was rudder length and placement
    thanks in advance

One of the most difficult questions to answer. Look for at least 2" below the stinger/prop shaft...easy to cut if too long... too short ...new rudder. Placement of the rudder, there are many thougts on this one...right or left?. I would go with the norm...right side as viewed towards the transom. How far from the centre line of the prop has a lot to do with hull design and othter hardware. I hope this helps. Also your aspirations as to what you want to acheive...sport...racing will have a bearing on your descion.
There are many more qualified people on this forum than myself and I hope they will respond.
Also what hull would be useful and I would go with new hardware
