nice hardware speedmaster makes high quality parts. Is that a .187 flex shaft and a L42x55 prop?

The max wattage rating on the AquaStar motor is 5280w which is equivalent to approx 7Hp (5280w / 746 = 7.077 Hp) I haven't decided on the ESC yet. Too small you need something more like a 55mm and up. And that flex shaft is too small you need a 1/4" flex. Where you using a teflon liner in your Motley Crew? I have heard similar stories like yours but when using .187 and teflon liner. I wont be using liner in this application.

Wow. totally twisted. Did you check on the motor shaft alignment vs the stuffing tube? How much space did you leave between bottom of strut and the drive dog when changing the flex shaft from .150 to .187 on your Motley Crew? I built the boat for a friend and the driveline was installed correctly. The problem was caused by failure to properly maintain the driveline. The owner failed to lubricate the flex and propshaft whiched caused the stuffing tube to wear abnormally. The boat struck a submerged object and twisted the flex and broke the strut.Originally posted by gyrotron View Postmtbenjamin77,

If you're only going to run a 42mm prop then the 3/16 187 might be okay but with a prop that better suits that hull you should prolly use a 1/4"

I appreciate your comment. I did my research and I will follow your suggestion and go with a 1/4" drive system and strut to be comfortable on the safe side. Chances are I'd be moving to a bigger prop later on.Last edited by gyrotron; 12-02-2012, 09:23 PM.

Here is a picture of the preliminary motor layout mock up and hatch hold in place system will secure later on with Keithbradley's lock down kit. The 1/4" flex shaft has already been cut to 13 3/8" length. The cross bracing is temporary.Last edited by gyrotron; 12-04-2012, 09:48 PM.

I've got new pictures of the boat build progress. The height of lower part of the motor towards the transom had to be corrected and raised 3/4" above hull floor measured from the cooling jacket not the motor can. Dana finished installing the hardware and servo mount. Next up transom fittings and water outlets. Thanks Diego. Here are pics of the transom fittings (located above center lines of strut bolts) and waterlines running above rails with a straight section made of alum tube. Alum brackets will be provided to fasten the alum tube to the rails.
