I never work with CF yet.
Glass yes on my manx 61 buggy,
You should be fine with the 5.5 all the way.
But 6.5 gives more head room for HV setups,
I think 5.5 is good on the cells to esc for different s cells to try from one boat to another,
To keep it easy if some one has 4s or 5s to try for cruising speeds.

I am going to run 6.5 bullets on batteries , just wondered if it made sense to remove the 5.5 that came on the motor or just run them.

Installing hardware

Another good day of building. I think things are progressing well. As usual, comments on the pictures/build are very welcome. I am not sure about the strength of the motor mount with all of that weight clamped to it. I may add a strip of Fiberglass to reinforce it at the base. In the picture of the rudder and right trim tabs, I tried to show my modification to get the correct height of the trim tab. we'll see what everyone thinks, not that I can change it now :) Batteries, receiver box and data logger should be in this week and I can finally get the cog set.

Well... If the mount isn't glued in well, a strip of fiberglass isn't gonna make any difference, it will rip rite out.

Everything looks good tho. I personally would have mounted my trim tabs and stinger a bit lower,but I'm still learning myself -)

Mounting looks good from what i can see. Did you allow the epoxy to flow thru the holes near the bottom of each side mount?

Yes I placed epoxy slowly to the outside of the mount allowing it to build up and flow through the holes. There is a good amount of epoxy on both inside and outside forming a wedge to the hull. It will probably be just fine when it all hardens up. I never worked with a motor that large and heavy before.
Dana, placed the trims according to suggestions and other threads. Actually would have put them another mm higher but just did not have the room with the larger rudder. The stinger is set the same way and to the right, I think 3/16" was the suggestion to compensate for prop thrust.

Did you sand the hull good where the motor mount is before you epoxy the mount in place ?

No I did not sand the epoxy/CF. felt it would melt into the epoxy. Now I'm really worried! Should I cut it out?

Just better to sand it for a better bond.
Does it feel strong to you ?
Try holding the boat by the motor and see if it feels strong.

Dood ALWAYS sand the crap outta the area you're glueing to. Try to rip it out by hand... If it comes out, it was no good to start with. You need to sand very well with 80 grit to ensure it bonds

Well I'm going to let it harden overnight and test. I'll just add that to the list of learning curve. If it's strong then fine, if not like Dana said it will have to be redone. I'll sand before installing everything else of course

If the other epoxy from the layup isn't too old (cured) it will probably be fine

Hey I use hot glue gun some times to mount stuff for temporary testing new setups and mods.
