Electrified x 4 build

Here is the inside with everything plumbed. Water goes from pickup to ESC, to motor and then out the top. On my old boat I went out the back and could never tell if it was flowing as I drove it. Hopefully I will get a visible stream.

I used a $4 plastic rudder setup from some RTR boat. Worked well with the old boat. Remember I put together about 15 of these boat kits so $$$ was important. Hole was there for the homemade water pickup.

Battery is VERY tight. In fact I really cannot move it. Tucks under the hatch mating surfaces and the aluminum mount has a little give to push it up. Ended up with the balance point at 28%. Could not push the motor ahead anymore. The wiring comes out the end and does not bend easily. Different than the old brushed motor.

So we are off this weekend up north and will try out the boat. I have turn fins for both sides if needed and some trim tabs. All made out of aluminum sheet.

I bought 3 of the $20 2.4 flysky radios and just tried it outside. Even with the antenna in the boat, and the transmitter behind a 4' diameter tree I could walk a long ways and still hear the motor running.

Well I ran the boat and the prop walk is horrible. Tried more stinger angle and still too much.


Went VERY fast. Almost uncontrollable but would be a great race boat. Need to increase the gauge of the motor mount aluminum sheeting with the new, more powerful motors. Also flew over the waves very flat and looked great.

Lets talk about paint. Rustoleum looks ok but had issues with paint lifting even though I gave 24 hours between color coats.

So I stripped off the paint, re fiberglassed resin and then primed/sanded/primed/sanded/filled/primed with lacquer primer.

I then on 3 boats used the PPG MBC urethane basecoats and then cleared with the 2 part PPG Quickclear. Came out great except for some dust motes.

My daughters boat. This is the lacquer mirage Ice paint system with the PPG urethane quick clear over it. Heavy flake with lots of color change flop with many colors.

My neighbors. They just sold their 67 Chris craft boat (first year for fiberglas) and loves wood boats.
