    Dumas DeepVee40

    Especially for FastVee--

You expressed a slight interest in Dumas DeepVee boats on a different thread-

This is the start of the DeepVee40--32 inches long.

Going along okay considering the instructions really stink and some of the wood is brittle- or doesn't fit properly.

Altogether though, it is kinda fun--just make sure you are able to "adapt" and have fiberglass handy.

    Looking good!

-do you plan of using strut or rudder on this build -or just tubes?

These are a bit small, but for sport running should be fine. -or nice speedmaster stinger/rudder from OSE? -going brushless this time?

hmmm....maybe, check them on my old sv here and see if they look ok to you. -they are a bit small on 27" sv(i think so) but they worked fine. thinking they should be fine on 20" ,but no promises.-what hull, will these fit is the question...also is 3/16" flex too large for that boat? -pm me if you want to talk about it more.

FastVee--haven't gotten that far in the planning yet--
Already have what I plan on for the rudder.

First question is do I want surface or submerged drive?--if I understand it, surface is inherently faster (?????)

Probably brushless on this thing if I can find a decent el cheapo motor/esc.

If you are not looking to go much faster then 30mph? I think these would be great.(if you have space for outrunner)

            motor http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11182

            esc http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._Boat_ESC.html
(there is cheaper way to get esc if needed, but this is prooven as an reliable unit.)

            Maybe 4s lipos? -like these
            http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11613 (2 of them to get 4s)

What do you think? -or if needed one of the cheaper esc“s is this
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._200A_ESC.html -and add brass tubing to the heat sink to watercool it.

Any idea of weight rtr? -the motor should be good but if it weights alot, maybe lower kv motor then.

I would build it surface drive, less Amps and faster boat!

              Fastvee etal:

Thanks for replies--but have some dumb questions-

What is outrunner motor--The boat is fairly big-32".
Will be a bit heavy-all wood, plus finish resen, paint etc--certainly more than a fiberglass boat. What would be a lower kv motor, whatever that means.

Do I have to go lipo--because of cost (including charger) would like to stick with my miah batteries--

Oh, sorry I“ll try and explain:

On outrunner motors the motor can, outer part of the motor is the rotating part. So it needs space so the batteries etc dont hit it. cause it rotates it also cooled by air that it sucks through itself, so no watercooling needed.

kv = rpm per volt so 1000kv on 10 volts has 10.000rpm“s.

                More kv = more amps.

If reliable easy to control boat is what you are after more then a speed demon then nimh and low kv motor should work.

No idea of that lower kv motor yet, will report if I find one. Thinking about 1000kv,but the 1300kv I linked should be ok also.

Nimhh could work if you are not looking to get too fast speeds of it, I think that 2 6-7cell nimh packs should be enough to get it to plane nicely, maybe about 15-20mph but I have no idea of thet really, just a guess. -lipos have so much more power and I dont use nimh so I cant be sure...

Maybe some one else knows and will reply.

oh, and lipo chargers aren“t all that expensive

OK-for purposes of discussion, let's say I get the motor recommended, and the better ESC, but don't want to go lipo just yet.

                  1. Does someone make a wiring harness so 2 nimh bats can be connected to a ESC? Offshore has them but out of stock. Are wires already installed on motor with bullet connector?

                  2. What motor mount--can a regular mount be used with an outrunner motor?

                  3. Any recommendations on coupler--motor has 5mm shaft.

                  4. Any recomendations on flex drive, stuff tube, prop?? Will do surface drive.

103 deg f here yesterday--40 deg c. So humid you need to do the breast stroke when outside. Electric bill is going to be a whopper this month.

FastVee- if you don't mind my asking-are you native Finlander or ex pat-your english skill are better than mine.

                    1. no idea of that, easy to solder new connectors to batteries anyway, right? -if you use bullet connectors then it is easy to connect 2 packs in series. Just plug negative plug from one batt to positive on another and then the remaining plugs to the esc. On some motors the connectors are soldered allready, others come with or without connectors in the box.

2.Any mount that has 25mm motor hole spacing and the space between mounting stands is more then the dia of the motor and the angle is adjustable so the motor can turn freely without grinding the hull. -like this http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=etti-h010

3.http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...ct-ocfhe5mm15S -if you are using .150 cable (I would) -any 5mm to .150 should fit that is made for electric motors.

                    4. 7/32" brass tube, cable(any .150 cable with 3/16 propshaft),prop x442,m445 x442 should be fast enough for fun (for first brushless boat) and m445 a bit more speed. -still just guesses cause I have no idea of that hull...

Very hot here also and no air con...

I was born in Finland and lived here my whole life, glad if people can understand what I am writing about .

I think you need a Leopard 4074 or 4082 minimum for that hull.

                      The 4074 1400kv or the 4082 1500kv on 6s would be good.

Okay--here is status so far (see Pics attached) and a couple more dumb questions.

Have ordered motor and the better ESC (Postage is a bit isn't it?)

Will start with miah batts and then move to lipos and the fast charger. Here are the questions-

                          1. ESC says watercooled-do I use regular water pick up and tubing for this?? Assume it is necessay even when using miah batts.

                          2. It was recommended that 2 lipos are needed-- how do I attach 2 lipos to the ESC--is there a harness for this--what type plugs are on this esc and lipo batts.

Poop!!! Turns out HobbyKing is OOS on the ESC--they are holding order until available--

Also, OSE is OOS stock on coupler I need--Poop again!!!

Did you try kintec? -in the us so prices a bit higher then hk,but faster service.

                              seaking
esc“s are the same as hk,kintec couplers are a bit more expensive but nice quality.
