Ok................here's the business end all rigged up. Plus a shot of the inside with the batt configuration.

I added some windshield trim and a thick pinstripe to break up the solid color.

Now just need to make a servo and ESC mount!

Got the Servo/mount in.............ESC mount in as well. Made them from aluminum stock layin' around.

I forgot how big this servo was til i yanked it out of the box it has been in for two years...........still n.i.b. The steering rod i used is a THICK one.......never used one this thick before, dont know the guage, but its a honker! Man, the hull really swallows up these four 5s 5800 batts.........heck, i could go 10s4p

              Gettin close guys!!

It may not be a sail servo..........thats just what my memory thinks. Its a 1/4 scale "high torque" servo.

Just checked the specs and it has 128 oz of torque at the 4.8v max rating. The speed is 0.21sec/60*. A standard size futaba 3010 high torque servo has 72 oz at 4.8v and a speed of 0.20/60*..........so basically just a big powerful servo with decent speed.

One thing 1/4 scale servos have over regular size high torque servos is beefier gears. You can get standard size servos with over 200oz/in of torque, but they still have small gears.

Steel gears wear out faster... without spending $100 on a servo, 1/4 scale is definitely the way to go for a boat this size IMO.

Actually the Hitec 805MG servo I stuck in my Arapaho was only like $39.00. (on sale at Hobby People when I bought it)
343 oz in torque @ 6v with operating speed of 0.14 sec for 60 degrees. Down side is it has to have the rx pack plugged into a Y harness so it gets fed directly.

plastic gears wear out faster in my experience

Wait a minute. YOU DO NOT PUT A 128 OZ IN TORQUE SERVO AS THE STEERING SERVO ON A 51" BOAT. Takes at least 200 oz in. I have built at least 14-15 gas sized boats and will tell you you are headed for BIG trouble with something that small. I dont own a steering servo smaller than 200oz in.

I won't swear to that being correct. I'm using a Hitec 645MG in my 47" mono with no problems and know for a fact that Ken Haines is using the same in his monster T Mono.
                                133 oz in @ 6v or 106 oz in @ 4.8.
