55" Quad or Triple Cigarette Boat

Here is my new 55" Scorpion hull from Mountain Hobbies. I am either going to make it a 3 or 4 motor boat with two outdrives with 2 motors on each drive or one drive with three motors. The motors will be inline and will be 1400kv T600s. I will use the 200amp Suppo esc's and run them in aluminum boxes that are filled with babyoil and run cooling tubes in the oil. Here are some pics!

3 on one gear? that will be a challenge... I would like to see the prop you're gonna be spinning though!

Oops sorry I guess I never said. They are going to be on one long shaft. If it is a triple three on one shat and a quad would be two on two shafts beside eachother. Like this....

And I am thinking of like a 60mm prop to start for a triple. I am leaning toward a triple because of charge time on 6s.

After a lot of thinking and research I am going to use 4 motors inline to one shaft. I think two outdrives on a mono hull can be kind of hit and miss and it will be much more stable on one outdrive with such a long and narrow hull.

It I push all the motors hard and get around 3250 to 3000 watts per motor I will be up between 12 and 13 kilowatts. So if I aim for 60mph all the components should be well within their limits all the way up to 10 kilowats total. I am pretty excited because As long as it is successful it will be a low cost alternative to a big Lehner or Neu and Shults esc's.

I will have a lot more time to build two weeks from now after my Thermodynamis and Fluid dynamis finals!

Yea I can't wait until it is done. It seems like National Lampoons Animal House for all the majors except for engineering and pre-med. It makes me want to go punch a business major!!

To be honest I like the twin drive idea better...just because you are going to have four different sets of variables to work with. Im not sure the turnigy/suppo quality control is good enough to produce 4 motors and 4 esc that all perform within close specs of each other.

What are you doing for the aluminum boxes? Do you already have some or are you fabbing them up?

Yea I have been going back and forth over the twin to single outdrive in my head and and that was the biggest issue. If the differences are too much I can always reconfigure them to two outdrives.

I am going to be fabbing the box(s). I think I will have one large aluminum box and mount it above the motors with two long aluminum tubes going through the inside of the bottom sides of the box longways. It willl be made out of .080in (about 2 mm) aluminum and the corners welded up at my dad's pontoon boat factory after I cut out the aluminum and bend it. I think it would be really cool to have a plexiglass top to the box so you can see the speed controllers in the oil.

Are you sure the two end motors wont put too much stress on the shaft? have you thought about mounting them?

I think the shaft will be okay. It is case harded steel, stronger than stainless but less cossosion resistant. And if you look close on the two inside motors have two fighter cat mounts already on them and I am going to mount all four motors to a piece of aluminum on each side and bolt that to the rails in the boat. I am pretty excited!
