    Custom 42'' Brushless build

    Well thsi project started out as a stack of wood and an old weed eater. After roughing the hull together and seeing how expensive the hardware was..it got set aside. Now ive picked it back up and started custom fabbing my own hardware. A few main questions i could use some help with are : What size flex shaft and prop should i use? Also will my 3650 size 3200kv brushless motor for my traxxas slash along with a 60a car esc work well in this size boat? Will be running 2s 40c lipos. I should have some pictures upof it in a little bit. Thanks! Heres some pics: Took me an hour to make the rudder out of som aluminum stock. Looks pretty darn good for me making it!

          Hey and welcome to the board.

          Great start! One potentially unwelcomed comment: I like to add my lift strakes after glass - end up with crisp edges - they look a little rounded which could solicit unwanted handling.

          As for motor, I think you might need to up the power by 2-4 times and half the KV. I think a minimum would be one of the castle 1717s floating around or a Leopard (not familiar with these, but am sure others will help) and for ESC something beefy (CC 240 HV or Swordfish?). You gonna have a heavy one there and need some cushion for the electronics.

          What's she weigh in at now?

          Oh yeah, I wouldn't go less than 3/16" (.187"), 1/4" would be better on the flex shaft. I think you are gonna need 5-6" stand off on a bigger rudder. I would think a 57-60 mm prop (once you have a strong motor) and probably 8-10S lipo. Expect about $100 in hardware, unless you find good deal on swapshop.

          what are your goals?
          what are your resources?
          what are your limitations?

              This project just got really ugly :O I'm on a very very VERY limited budget right now..just want it to be able to do some decent speeds around the river we own an island on..no rough water or anything. I've always loved rc boats and am intrigued by everything so i couldnt just slap a big ol' prop on my motor and go boating? LOL just kidding. I have an old 5800kv Novak car motor..higher rpms? Or i could buy an old Kyosho Jet Stream 800 in brand new shape for 50$ and throw my brushless setup in that with some 2s lipos :D

                  This ESC and motor setup would be alot better(certainly not best) than what you have posted. Your motors are way too high of a kv. This is the most "bargain" type setup i can suggest.

                  You can run three 2s packs in series for 6s and some rpm's

                      Jetstream would be all right but I think it has a steerable outdrive may not hold up to the power

                          Yeah i figured if people put vxl car systems in spartans and blasts then my system thats basically equivalent should do good in a jetstream. Any info on the jetstreams? cant seem to find any inside pictures
