Fountain Rio 30"

I have chosen this hull for a twin motor semi scale sport boat because of it's great scale looks. The hull scares off alot of builders off due to the rake of the transom. I am unafraid. In case you havent noticed from the pictures the hull is rather slim(30x6). In my opinion the counter rotation of the props will stablize the boat @ speed. I have chosen the Traxxas Villain drive system. I will need to make quite a few mods to it as you will see. The power system on the other hand is completely up in the air. I would love suggestions from my fellow builders. Keep in mind this is a sport boat. That being said I am open to brushed or brushless systems. I have decided on 3s-1p per motor. This is going to be a winter long build. I am going to extreamly meticulous with the construction of this boat. Expect lots of carbon fiber fabricated parts and a very clean layout. It took me just over 2 hours to trace & cut those vinyl windows and hatches out free hand. My goals are 30mph, decent run time and a nice model for the shelf. Nothing more. I have no time table how ever long it takes is fine. Here are the first batch of pictures. Check out the scale next to the other boats.

Thats my attitude also man . But from what I'm told hardware issues are the main reason it don't sell along with the 6 inch beem.

Good to see someone else 'brave' enough to try this cool looking boat.
I have a white one ( bought from OSE of course) that I am doing as a scale model of Rio Roses Fountain with all the correct decals.
I have made my own strut and rudder mount ,because nothing store bought will fit, and will power it with an SS1 on 12 cells.
I'm sure it will go well in a straight line, not too sure about the turns.
I don't expect it to be a serious race boat but that's not what I bought it for.

I can post a couple of pictures but the build process has had to take a rain check for a while due to other more important matters, such as trying to sort out my 'twin Jolly'.

Just a small updat as to setup. I am side lining the traxxas drive equipment for another project. I have devised a way to run a set of Aquacraft stingers. A single rudder will be used. I am taking the angle aluminum stock into work tomorrow. The guys are going to cut it on the band saw for me. It tends to look like I chewed it off when I use a dremmel. The angle is for the interior brackets. I'll slot the transom and run the exterior brackets out for the stingers. The stinger and rudder brackets will be made of a Yellow Kevlar carbon composit I found on ebay. I will pick it up as soon as the Bj26 powersystem sells.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, when I was looking for my first hull I found the Rio and really liked the Euro looks of her, but then I did some research and found that with her narrow beam she supposedly did not handle very well and did not like waves.......though I would think a narrow beam would help there. Keep us updated and I may jump on the wagon when I see how you tackle the transom....she is a great looking boat.

PS...the 11XL I got from you in the spring is still rocking, finally got my OM29 pretty well sorted and have been having a blast with her. I am really inpressed with the speed VS. runtime of the 11XL on 4S2P 4000mah (8000mah total) and either a X445 or a X447. She goes pretty darn well......and I get 8 mins and only putting 5000mah back into the pack and everything is just slightly warm. I just ordered a M645 which I will try out for the flat water days......not that I get many of them on Long Island Sound.

Thanks for the comment Jim. I am glad your boat is sorted out and the motor is holding up. I have realistic expectations of this hull. It's going to be a functioning scale model or sport boat. Nothing more.

Update: The stinger struts and Carbon Kevlar composite is ordered. Only motors & esc's to go.

Yet again I have to revise the drive system. After a crude mock up I discovered a unforseen issue. Drive spacing, if I install both stingers far enough apart for prop & rudder clearence one will be forced out of the water while turning. The remaining thrust from the oposing prop will roll the boat on to it's hatch. So I am keeping the same threw hull bracket mount system. Just reducing it to a single stinger and dual deep rudders to counter prop walk. I have a 7XL in the mail I will run on 3s & 4s. The hull is shaped like a rocket. It may as well go like one too.

I came to pretty much the same conclusion, the hull is so skinny there is no room for twin drives.
I have made my own 'stinger' from K & S stainless tubing and have twin Octura rudders much the same as the picture on the Fine Design website.
If the prop diameter is kept small this hull should go well in a straight line but I suspect it will barrel roll if pushed too hard in the turns.

Grahm I am counting on those dual rudders to counter torque roll. I am also going to keep the prop size down. With a 7XL that I wont have much of a choice anyway. I really do want to bolt a speedmaster stinger to the bracket but.. I have spent the money on the AC stingers already & I still need to pick up another rudder. Not to mention I have another build going now.
