    hardware recomendation

    Hello,
I have started to build a FE crackerbox that fits within the NAMBA guidlines. This means that the rudder and trim tabs can extend beyond the transom by NO more than 2".
Can somebody point me to what rudder to buy that meets this requirement?
I have an old Aquacraft UL-1 and looked at using the rudder off of it. But it extends 2-3/8" beyond the end of the transom.

    thanks,
    tim

They've got a pretty reasonable hardware package, and I believe its fully legal.

I don't think that rudder will work. It is only 2" long. I need something 3 to 3 1/2" long.

What about shortening the bracket on a rudder of your desired length? Like on a rudder like this............the 10mm squares indicate the rudder is 75mm long and 60mm to the back.......9mm too long, cut 9mm off the bracket..........???

        http://cgi.ebay.com/43-75mm-Aluminiu...item35aa094c4a

Or this may work as it is, its 42mm from the front of the bracket to the rear of the rudder....... http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...p?prod=mcr-mhr
NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

Why wouldn't that rudder work? It's designed specifically for their crackerbox. Keep in mind the 2" is just the blade, where most rudder measurements include the part above the blade in their height measurement.

Guys, realize that the only NAMBA specifications for a Crackerbox are for the 1/10th scale model. This is a ~20" N-1 powered boat. There are proposed "guidelines" put together without any NAMBA sanction for a 1/6th scale CBox, but they haven't been approved. As of now even the "spec" motors are not NAMBA -anctioned except in the 1/10th scale Unlimited Hydros.

The above certainly doesn't mean that you shouldn't build the boat - go for it by all means. It is meant as a reminder that the rules (if ever approved) may not look like the informal "guidelines" put together by a few individuals. For example, the current NAMBA gas Crackerbox rules allow the prop to extend well beyond the transom.

              Ahh, I didn't realize it wasn't a 1/10 scale build...

I just got an email from Offshore Electris. They said that the oct-oc4wra ( http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=oct-oc4wra ) is
"about 1 3/4" from mounting surface to trailing edge of the rudder." This sounds like it would work fine with the boat.

I realize that the Namba rules may not be official. But I race with Rod Santana, who helped write the preliminary draft, and the guy the won the Crackerbox class at the FE Nationals this year. I figure if I follow what they have done, I should be close to having a legal boat when , and if, things become official.

                thanks,
                tim
