Filling old transom holes?

I'm wondering what I should do to fill unused holes when changing hardware?

Glass over the inside of the transom and a little MarineTex colored epoxy on the outside?

I'm swapping rudder, strut and going to try no trim tabs.

Small holes, I tape the outside of the transom, lay the boat "nose up" on the transom and fill with epoxy from the inside. Put a drop of paint in the epoxy to try and match the hull color.
For larger holes, I drill the hole bigger to the size of a wooden dowl, Jam the dowl into the hole, epoxy it place.

Don't worry Jason. I'll take good care of her. I just want to update the hardware based on what I've read about stepped hulls. This thing has a small rudder IMO and I had no luck getting it to not prop walk on my x442. It did better with x642, but I could not get it to run straight with that rudder.

The JBweld did not hold on the rudder servo so it made me rethink the whole rudder and strut. I also like the SM-style stingers and have looked at every Toysport Triiton on the web and larger rudders and stingers seem to be the norm.

Mike, I believe I got this technique from you. I used the small hole technique on ALL holes before.

Thank you everyone for the tips. I've purchased the dowel rods and some colored epoxy and plan on doing tonight!

I'll also be sure to post in the Q&A forum next time since this is for builds only.

I do it all the time, too much paint will make the epoxy not harden like it should. a drop or 2 doesn't seem to affect (I can never remember when to use effect or affect) it except for the coloring.
