    H&M Drifter L re-build

I just got this Beautiful Drifter L in a trade. It has front sponson damage. I've patched it up with some light glass and z-poxy with micro-balloons. Shaped for the most part and super strong now. Have to put some more work into that repair yet, but it's definately usable. It came with a 9xl and a .130" cable. Ran her today, on 4s2p. It was fun, but a bit anemic. It ran very nicely with just the last couple of inches of ride pad on the water. She measures about 37" overall and is about 10.75" wide. That power setup isn't gonna cut it for me. I have a Castle/Neu 1717 here, so I machined up a nice aluminum motor mount at work today. Popped it in when I got home today, and changed out the stuffing tube and flex for a .187" setup. I have a 1520 on the way, and my end up using that instead. I have other plans for this 1717. I'll be starting with 5s2p and a Seaking 180. Here is how she looks inside now. Cant wait to let her rip tomorrow.

It will happen. Gonna get her handling proper first. Hopefully she'll handle some speed!

Yes. I'm a CNC programmer/operator. Generally, I program Swiss type lathes. (sliding headstock) Side projects like this, I usually sneak in throughout the day. The best part is that the shop has tons of scrap material. Basically, anything I could imagine needing. The motor mount was basically just laid out with a scribe in a height gauge, then cut out rough on the band saw, and finished her up on a vertical mill. Came out pretty good, and is VERY strong.

Very cool. Its nice to have that kind of opportunity. We do a lot of CNC stuff where I work, although I am a fabricator/TIG welder and dont spend too much time at those machines.

Have you done any servo mounts yet? I plan on making one for the cat I won but not sure what I want to do yet.

Yes, I've made a couple servo mounts. They are pretty simple to make. Especially the rail mount style.

The shop I work in is about 95 percent CNC. Lathes, and mills. We have some old screw machines and six spindles too.

Ran this morning with a x648. Screaming fast. About 2 minutes in I lost my prop. Efff! The nut backed right off. Threw on a x 447 and it was all good. Not as fast, but at least mid 50's still. She doesn't like to turn a speed. Gonna try to move th cg back a little. It's at about 34 percent now. It's gonna be a fun boat!

I'd like to add that none of the electronics are even slightly breaking a sweat.

well this answers my question on wether or not the seaking/turnigy 180's will handle a 1717.... I was told no by others... guess I am gonna use one in my mean machine.... if she does blow up it will be the first hobbywing 180 esc I have been able to blow so I am gonna give here a go..... I use one with a 1521 in my df and she doesn't get very warm either....

Oh... and rum I am cancelling my subscription to this thread... I cant take it no more!!!!!! LOL... just kidding.... glad you are making her really go... I was keeping the 9xl in her so I wouldn't do any damage to her... guess that idea didn't help me much...
