There is no problem drilling through the hull bottom for a water exit - in fact it is a very good place for one as it allows better draining of the system. I have several hydros/cats with water exits on the bottom, they work great without that non-scale outlet ruining the looks of the hull's clean exterior. My buddy Joerg taught me that one.

I also usually put tape over the bottom of the slot, and then use epoxy and layer glass cloth over the inside. Holds up very well and when you peel off the outside tape, you have a nice, clean, smooth surface.
That's exactly how I do mine. Since I like an s-bend in my hydro drivelines, I place the hole a little over halfway towards the motor. This gives a longer length of tube outside the hull to allow for strut adjustments. I'd have my driveline in by now if it wasn't for the dreaded flu!

Mine over time fits a little worse than when I got it but it's not a concern to me really since it all fits great once it's taped down.

It's hard to see from my picture here but my cowl has totally different lines compared to everyone else's. Jeff told me he redid the lines and shape to make it hold it's shape better.

My experience with resin and fiberglass is that it shrinks a bit over time as it completely cures and that's probably the cause of the deformation. And if it was epoxy glass it would just end up doing the same thing if it was left out in the sun to heat up.

I started out with vinyl, but changed over to paint with some pinstriping.

Mines a sticker. I'm going to paint a window on the new version cowl if I ever order one. I want to keep this one just like it is.

Verygood job. What did you use for masking? Or how did you paint that windshield?

I just carefully masked with plain 'ole masking tape; the space between the front & side windows was masked with some pinstripe tape. Shot with Krylon Fusion Black Satin finish. Finished off with pinstripe tape [which won't last forever ]. Time consuming but I like the way it came out.

Looks good Tony. I usually use a thick pinstripe and make a border in the design I want. Then I use masking tape around that, since you can be sloppier with it.

                          Got my boat!

The picture does not do the red justice. Really a nice looking boat. Propper, could you send me a copy of the build instructions that you did? jim.stephens@comcast.net. Are you all putting any plywood on the transom or where the turn fin is for extra strength? Doesn't look like it needs it.

You should be able to figure out the build just from this thread. Ask if your not sure of anything. Does your boat not have plywood in the transom and turn fin area already ?

Chuckle, shows how excited I am. I just got home from work and opened the box up, but did not even exam the interior yet. You are correct. Cool.

Yeah, I will start on the build tomorrow. If I had one more day before the weekend I think I could get it together before the weekend to run it. I am going to the river after work on Friday so that only leaves me one night.
