    Rumdog's 1/8 Ms. Elam build

Traded for this hull a while back. I rec'd hull with strut only. I ordered up the rudder and bracket, and radio box cover. and a bunch of other little goodies. Got some presents in the mail today, so I started in on her. First I removed all the wood mounts from the nose which hold the gas tank. Plenty of room for 2 5s 5000's up there. Then I cut out large sections of the wood stringers up front. This is so I can fill the sponsons with foam and lay my other 2 batts (5s 5000's) in that area. Kind of a P.I.T.A. I plan on running a littlescreamers outrunner. I have the mount for one made by Randy from BBY. I may wait a bit because supposedly they are coming out with a few different kv options. I was going to go with a Turnigy Monster 2000, but the Swordfish hv 240's Ive been waiting on came in, so I got one of those bad boys. Plus I can swap it into my Sprintcat for some 6s rips!! A few pics of where she's at right now:

I plan to use the radio box as well. Servo, and rx will be safe. The esc is waterproof, but I will ensure that! the motor should be fine if it gets a dunk, but I dont think this big girl will be flipping too much.(knock on wood) Does anyone know a good source for the best type of 2 part foam to use in the sponsons?

I used Great Stuff in my cat and no problems. Thought it would expand more but it did not. Just sprayed in lightly and it works great. It is hard and not expanding at all. I am not worried about heat either in the summer....it is hard.

Is it the type used around windows as to not over expand, or just the regular stuff?

Filled the sponsons with a bunch of greatstuff foam. Seems to have worked great! Also cut a battery tray for up in the nose out of light ply. Pics to come in a bit. I really am enjoying working on this BIG boat!

What are your plans for sealing the motor area? The cut out section for the pull start lanyard is bound to catch water off the sponson tunnel. What ever you got planned its going to look good on the water.

That cut-out is actually covered by the canopy. Not 100 percent on sealing the rear turbine area yet. Being that I'm using a radio box, I may just leave the rear open. The stock boat is Way more unstable than this one is going to be, so hopefully much less chance of horrid sponson dancing tripping her up.

OK! First run tomorrow. Built the turn fin and bracket finally. It was a real pain, because the mounting area for the bracket is nowhere near square. Changed the setup from the original idea. Now it's got a Neu 2215 1.5y, Swordfish hv 240 and 9s2p. The sponsons have been filled with foam. I'm using the radio box to house the servo, rx and rx pack. It's all water tight. Running a big 1/8 scale servo. Sealed up the holes in the turbine intake. Going to start with a x452, then a x457, as I lost my x455. Me thinks she's gonna fly! Just hope it handles OK. The stock gas version seems to have the CG waaay to far back. Every time I see one run it is pulling a sponson up. CG on mine is way further forward and hopefully it stays better planted.

I changed the strutand the turn fin on mine. Mine handles like it is on rails.

Hopefully she does OK with my custom turn fin. I did mill a little material off the top pad on the strut to get the AOA right.
