    Primus makeover

Since there seems to be some interest, I'll do a make over thread.
the primus appears to be a nice hull, but there are some issues that need to be addressed. item 1) the sides of the hatch opening deflect fairly redily and because of this the tub and sponsons can bounce up/down quite easily. item 2) the afterplane is too long to be legal in the sport hydro class, item 3) the 'vented area' between sponsons is too deep also.
since when I got the hull the transom had been removed...taking care of the afterplane issue was phase 1 of the make over. to wit replace transom. I made a carbon ply carbon sandwich in the rough shape of the transom and epoxied it in place, followed by sanding and 'glassing it, so phase one is done. phase two, reducing the vented area. After checking drobie's pencil mark(and making it darker) against NAMBA rules I found that it was in the right place, next I cut two bits of 1/8" ply(one for each side) and glued the portside 'plug' in place. some Bondo (I dislike bondo) & spot putty and a good bit of sanding later the port side is done (yay!). I've also epoxied in some cf strip on the portside hatch opening to stiffen it up a bit, starboard side will get the same however that alone will not be enough, but I'll have to wait untill after the motor mount & stuffing tube are in place before I place the crossmember which should make for less sponson flap.

Rex I am watching this with interest, the Primus has a front boom tube connecting the sponsons. Probably to stiffen it up.

well the vid as it turns out is not on building the boote hydraulic...,but just above that link are the building instructions(in German, I got them mostly translated) :). thanks for pointing me to page must have missed seeing that last time I was there. apparently the hull is supposed to be that flexible... go figure

Hey Rex, you need any hardware or batts for that?

                  Jeff:
I think I'm good on the hardware(just could use some tiny hands to install it ), batteries are a distinct possibility(haven't tested mine this year to see how many have died)

Yep, very often used on Lindenau boats.
It even sometimes is available in the German shop from RC-Raceboats.de

well I was more curious than anything, since I had already planned on using a more conventional (to me) strut. ran across that picture included in the instructions.

Rex why not make one ?? Very different to any strut at your local pond. You never know you may start a new trend !!

                              Andy.

Never had a problem with H&M answering mails.
                              Don't know what went wrong.
                              Maybe try again ?

                              Rex :

I would make one myself to, if I were you.
They are small, and easy to adjust !
