Anyone securing the lid with something other than tape?

Thinking about trying adding a gasket to the lid (on the stock lid, not the fighter jet lid), then using two bolts/wingnuts to clamp it down.

Spending too much time taping!

To get a good seal you will need a bolt every few inches. I did this on a Campbell hydro and it is worse than taping imo.

ZI used to use a screw down lid on an old nitro boat screws every 1/2" and greese. or vasaline. To get a waterproof seal thank goodness for tape!

To get the AQ motor to fit I have put the cooling in/out on the bottom of the motor. Do you folks see a big problem with this?

Chuck, I try to keep the fittings as close to the top as possible to keep the air bubble as small. For some reason the Aquacraft cooler fittings are allot closer than the Neus and Castles. This was almost a problem with the narrow cowl on my Insane Sport Hydro. With the Castle motor The fittings were spread out much further. I had the exit fitting staight up and the intake fitting down low to the side. When I switched over to spec power with the UL1 cooler positioned the same way, the intake fitting was rubbing against the cowl. I was able to twist to can to get a decent compromise. Similar to the JAE pic attached.

I remember that!!!!!!

My Water Spider had that type of lid and it was all I could do to keep it Greased up all day at the race.

Mike, I had to compromise ... my cooling can is very similar. I have to keep both fittings to the side to clear the hatch. I think this will work much better than having both fittings on the bottom of the motor. My tub is a bit wider than than the stock JAE tub so I think I am good to go.

Chuck run that motor within it's limits and it will be fine no matter where the fittings are.

Hey Mike,
I worked my butt off lol, and had a blast doing it. Another Spring Nats in the books.
Raced 60 scale and brought home a first place with a boat borrowed from Rick Bellinger our Dist. Scale Dir. Man what a hoot!!!!
Picked up a 1/8 scale from a good friend this weekend ( Thanks Kevin!!). I'll be working with Rick to get some FE 1/8th scales running with the 60s in D13.
Our good friend Buddy Lowe took home enough wood to build a house! LOL

Ran some FE's this morning while everyone was getting set up. Lots of interest in the P Limited Hydro and O/B Tunnel.

He's a great guy, we had a bunch of fun. Most of it was at Julian's expense.
Had some fun with Tracy too, another great guy. He had his share of issues this weekend but still took home some wood.

Hi Doug, I have a Mini Sprint on the way to me in the UK. Can i ask you what various glues you find works best during the build process, ie ply to foam sponsons, stuffing tube to hull bottom, general wood bonding. Do you use any CA at all & do you mix any fibres or micro balloons with epoxy at all. Cant wait to get this little thing built & see what it can do. Im also looking at getting the JAE 21 FE but putting something like a Leopard 3674/2650kv just for fun running or maybe a higher kv still for saw type runs to see what the boat is capable of. The JAE boats look like they run very well indeed. Regards Martin.

I use Z Poxy 30 min for building and Finishing resin for sealing.

Good stuff!!
Micro balloons go in the epoxy around the stuffing tube.

The only place use CA is the bulkheads at the beginning of the build, to tack a triangle block under the stuffing tube inside the hull, and to assemble the ski. I use Mercury High Performance CA. The stuff is awesome!
