Dual Drive Head Of The River Catamaran

Hi,

I am quite new to this forum and to FE boats.

I have a HOR32 cat and after a Li-Po fire it is being rebuilt.....

I just want to know what people thing of my options....

1, Rebuild with a single motor using the correct parts (probably should've done this to start with)

2, Build it as a twin motor set-up????

I have found what seems like a great deal on e-bay for the Dual drive system but don't know if I should go for it or not????

thats a good price on that dual system but i dont like the 4mm drive system

if it was all 3/16" I would jump on it

If those are the same drives I've tested the flex comes out from the inside and is a pain in the butt. The 28mm motors have less efficiency than the 540 motors. And the 28mm doest handle heat as well. I would get 540 motors.

yes..... if they could bump everything up to 3/16" drive with 540 motors for 25 to 50 bucks more it would be a hot system for sure

thats a good price on that dual system but i dont like the 4mm drive system

What is it that you don't like?
Is it that you limit the props? or that it's weak?????

Most of the chinese stuff uses 4mm flex with square ends. You have to completely remove the strut to get the shaft out for lubing. Terrible setup! The square ends tend to not run very true either.

Problem is, the Europeans use and love that setup for some reason and the European market is ten times bigger than the U.S. so the chinese manufacturers cater to the Europeons rather than us.

Ok, I have sent an e-mail to them and for now I will wait to see if they will do a 540 deal with 3/16 parts...

If on the other hand I decide to put my own set-up together, What 540's should I use?
I would prefer to have Feigao motors as I can get them quick enough and they are cheep!

I dont think I said it failed. Its just a pain removing the motor to get the flex shaft out.

Head of the River is not a manufacturer. They real manufacturer doesn't make many 3/16" parts.

Im very curious as to ponder that the same manufacturer out of Hong Kong that make those parts, makes the same parts for Venom. If so, I can attest the drive cables have workes well for me so far and the surface drives are easy to setup. The motors are the parts that I would ditch. They wont last long...
But yes, 4mm is a PITA to find props and hardware for. If you wanna do it right, find a 3/16" drive

Making the 3/16 props fit is no problem, I have made adaptors to take up the gap...

Making props fit isnt the problem. Removing the cable to oil it is. The cable doesnt come out of the strut end, you have to first remove the motor and the cable comes out of the inside.

A pain for sure but a necessary one...
If I went upto 540 motors, What would you sugest?

I was thinking of two Feigao 10L's running on one 4S each....
Mayby 442L/R props too?????
