I built a Skd 36" in the early 1950 s. Bigest prob with them is the mahog deck, seal the under side. Larry

Got my Daddle TOO today-wood pretty good, all parts accounted for--plans need improvement-

Wakeboard--what length drive shaft did you use?? Looks about 10". How far from stern did you drill for stuffing box??

Got mine yesterday, all there except missing (1) decal. The photocopied plans from the original lithograph(?) are not the clearest!

My plans are old,not a coppy. They show a 6 ch Citizen Ship radio, and a cool clamp on a nitro motor. Larry

To make the sides fit, wet them with alcohol and tape them to a rattle can. Part 17 and 18 (side skins)are one piece on SK 2,see Fig 7 Larry

Thanks, Larry--I reread the instructions and now "get it". I was thinking that 17 was the bow support stringer. Duh!

OK-wet with alcohol (bar brand??) and tap to rattle can--ok-now I am assuming tape and prebend only the back part of sides, and let dry??

A BIG 10-4 on that, You can use SO CO, JD or rubbing alcohol JD goes better with You might want to remove the rib and moyor mounts where the motor goes, don't glue them in solid,and they will bust out easy. That way you can place the batterys on eather side of the motor . Larry

My SK 20 is ready for power,just have to find a motor and esc. Had to remove 2 ribs to make room for the gear. Larry

Methinks I will use a coping saw to cut a battery size hole in the rib so boat retains lateral strength.

The construction is over kill,not to worry I used 1/32 in ply on the sides of mine

After a mighty stuggle finnally have the sides on the Skidaddle Too--

Am now putting on the deck stringers etc--Dumas plans really stink--pictures are unclear, written instuctions worse, and had to fabricate a couple missing parts. Oh well, what do you expect for $40?

Will post a pic soon as I have it cleaned up enough not to be embarressed.

Now, to the point--I really want to stain this boat so it looks like mahogany. But the bottom and side plywood do not seem to be a good base for this. One of my other hobbies is building furniture, As a result I have a bunch of leftover veneer in various wood grains.

I believe I will be able to apply veneer to the bottom and sides of the boat as the angles are fairly flat.

Yeah, I know, water problems--but I think that if I use waterproof contact cement and a couple good coats of marine poly it will work fine--

Since I am not looking for a new speed record th little bit of extra weight does,t bother me.

Has anyone ever done this???

It has been done as I have seen a number of boats so done, but I do not know what adhesives the builders used. I would use something that will hold well even if it gets damp. Too many of the veneers I have seen have peeled up and warped when they got wet - even one built by Roger Newton himself. Water will wick into about any place on a boat, a tiny crack in paint or lacquer will let it in to seep between the wood and veneer. CA would be my choice although it could be tricky to apply. I would not use standard contact cement or spray adhesive. Why go to the trouble only to have the veneer look sh**ty in a shor time?
