Perception is not and should not have been an issue for the Professor.

Oh really? If it wasn't an issue, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. I wasn't there. I do not know what really happened. The professor perceived racism, whether there was or not. There are two sides to this story. Maybe the police officer's actions weren't racially motivated. But something did occur that made the professor think they were. We just don't know.

So apparently even you fall prey to the use of stereotypes. This is not nearly as cut and dried as those of us who were not involved seem to want to think it is. Is it not possible that the cop felt the same way you did? Irrespective of color? Just that the guy was a pompous ass and that perhaps that effected his reactions??

Dom I agree that in the back of the Officers mind, he "could have" been a racist. But again, in the end if the Professor gave the id when asked, we wouldn't be talking about this.

His house was also broken into recently. So it is not that outrageous to think that when a neighbor saw a man trying to pry the door open. I hope if any of my neighbors see someone trying to pry the door open they also call the cops.
