The Energy Non-Crisis

Sadly nuclear power is doomed in this country. Between the regulatory structure that resulted from sheer ignorance of the anti nuke folks and the rampant equally ignorant NIMBY mind-set there is little chance of getting enough new nuke plants on line to make any difference.

It is without question the single best solution we have but public opinion and the costs that have crippled the industry just make it something that will never happen here.

Sadly, I think the day will come when some future generation will be sitting freezing in the dark trying to figure out how this all happened. I have begun to embrace the Gaia Theory more and more lately and it is not making me very optimistic.

The end is not near, we just have to manage our resources and talents for different resolutions. At this time nuclear power

Yep, I live 20 miles north of it. There is one other nuke plant in California, up north.

The us gets about 19% of our power from nuke. France gets about 77%. We have 104 operating reactors. We would need about 400 similar sized plants to meet 75% of our needs.

I don't see the US adding 300 plants any time real soon.
