Well Andy, Chuck is now going to do a war dance and splash generous amounts of single malt whisky on a prop that he is going to mangle for me, the end result should be fun. Chuck also made a very generous offer but I told him to piss off as I wish to help our poor cousins maintain their lifestyle

Douggie the prop is done! I have to say that the malt whiskey does give it a special patina.

It looks great Chuck but I think I will have to modify the drivetrain to accommodate this beauty.

WTF happened to that prop ??Originally posted by egneg View PostDouggie the prop is done! I have to say that the malt whiskey does give it a special patina.
Of the many I have hit hard things with most are now at the bottom of the pond, in fact there are enough there in one small area to upset the earths magnetism.
I have very rarely bought in a mangled prop and I must say that one is spectacular
I did bend the thinned tips on a 432 once when I ran it with a not so clever setup
See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

It's a X472 from a gas boat. I think it happened when he went into the rocks earlier this year. I was sent a picture to see if I could fix it. I fixed a propshop 3 blade a while back where the tips were bent back to the point it looked like a flower.Originally posted by Simon.O. View PostWTF happened to that prop ??

Well as you all know I have been doing a modification on my old Xzess 2. It is at least 2 years old now and over the time I learned that the winglets made the hull go for the sky once the nose lifted a little either by speed, wind or rough water. I have cut the winglets off and that seems to have fixed the problem. This hull has had a hard life but the mod and paint is starting to make it look a whole lot better IMO.
Today is done 101 kph or a little over 62 mph on a 3s Zippy Flightmax. Prop was an andym special X642 and motor was a Neu 1515 0.5Y. I know there is more speed to come yet as I have to remove quite a bit of lead from the nose.
I just thought I would put a few pics up to show the hard time this hull has had.
The first picture shows the results of 2 different incidents. The obvious one is fire damage from a cooked esc. The red sponson and nose is from when the boat hit me in the leg and done a lot of damage to both of us...

Duck damage...

The start of the modification...

Getting closer to the finish of stage 1 (no ozzie not a G freak stage 1)...

Abusing the Xzess 2...

Interesting, I would have thought the sponsons would flex too much with this mod.....I like the paint.....makes the old queen look like a virgin.

Chuck it has made a big difference to mine. I think the completed job should look OK too. I do not have a lot of time so I am just painting as I go. Some of the boat has the finish coat, some has undercoat and some no paint but I am getting there. It has had about 30 SAW type runs and has not looked like blowing over. I have a very small turn fin on so I can turn it with a little speed and in a circuit it is OK also.Originally posted by egneg View PostPaddy I think you are on to something here. I may be whacking the wings off of mine as well.

The 3s on a 1515 0.5Y thing is just something I wanted to try. I think with a good battery and a little more work 65 to 67 mph will be no problem on 3s and going on how cool it runs I could do 3 laps without water cooling. I want to try a V937/3 on it too.
One big difference is instead of running the battery hard up in the nose as far as I could get it I now run it as close to the motor as I can get it. Andy is telling me to raise the strut a little and I think he is correct. A but more AoA and we might see 70mph on 3s. On 4s and a suitable motor 80 mph might be possible. I better stop before I wake up and fall out of bed.

Douggie the way this is done it will not flex. You have had the combined genius of Andy and myself working on this one. Andy has the technical skill and I have the epoxy (gallons of it).Several boats in various stages of destruction
