I have heard of things like that happening here in the US, specially in the states that are a bit more green... not necessarily Cobras but, Boas, Cottonmouths, etc. I think it doesn't even matter if the snake is poisonous or not, if it strikes or constricts, it's something one would never ever forget.
I'd like to add as a footnote: That is one ROUND toilet!
