As for us nuking Japan, would you rather have had us send in ground troops? Have you no idea what Japan had in store for an invading army? Have you studied the US invasion plan for Japan? We had troops on the way, the Japanese were prepared for us. Down to women and children with sticks and rocks if necessary.

I'm glad we nuked 'em. It was the right decision and it saved lives in the long run.

Edited...dang I bet that one was good!!

All I know is I back our theory of world peace....not everyone agrees with the party in power at the times and methods. Do I want to change their culture or any of that... no way...they deserve to live like we do and not fearing their dictator while they are being killed because they want to live free with a say.

We take our chances at the polls all the time...the reason everyone should vote yet they don't. That is what freedom is.

Guns are a small issue when we look at the global situation this world is in. Crashing economies scare our own government...it can begin wars as well.

As a Christian Nation, is our foreign policy based on Old Testament or New Testament Ideals ?

                Here's a great resource:

I challenge anyone to show me where "peace" has been the result of negeotiations and/or capitulations. I submit to you that peace is the result of victory.

That is why we need guns: For victory over the criminal elements of our society. And that is why our Founding Fathers wrote the Second Ammendment: For the time that criminals control the government. The Second Ammendment was there for the people to have the ability to rise up against an oppressive government.

It's just too bad that our population has been "dumbed-down" by the public education system to the point that our heritage is lost. Now it's: (sing it Janice) "Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose....Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free....."

                    I'm with ya Doc!

There are so many great songs from the 60s and 70s. For years I never knew Bobby McGee was written by Kris Cristopherson (sp)

I would blow every pirate ship out of the water that came close off the coast of Africa....end of story. I would arm the tankers as well and have trained personel on them. Shoot these bastards and be done with it....I am tired of reading about it.

Sorry Dr. Jet, but your interpretation of the Second Amendment is way out there. The Founding Fathers had no concept of personal protection and said so very clearly.

This is the operative phrase from the 2nd Amendment:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,
But I will grant you that the Conservative controlled Supreme Court has recently held that this includes personal protection. Oddly when activist judges rule in favor of your opinion they are no longer "activist" judges. They went counter to over 150 years of legal opinions, but that is not Judicial activism, that is a right mined court finally, after over 200 years, being able to discern correctly what the Founding Fathers had in mind.

So now the idea of a "well regulated militia" includes people clutching their guns in their homes insisting that without them freedom would be in jeopardy.

So really, the only thing between us and anarchy are you and people like you who are armed to the teeth. Were it not for you then criminals would be running crazy in the streets and the Gubbermint would strip us of all our rights?

And the price of 3,000 dead children per year and 9,000 death by suicide using a gun per year, is acceptable??

                      OK.

You are right....the Founding Fathers had no idea the crap that would happen in today's world or they would have writtten in a heck of a lot more to secure our freedoms....And I am sure it would have included more punishement to the bad guys and the people to have more rights when molested, shot at or many other things. Look at what some other countries do to criminals...want to be them? We have the leanest laws in the world...the reason it has gone to hell with bad guys...it is worth the chance the way they see it.

Comes down to money...that is all it is.

All I can say is this thread gave me even more reason to go to the indoor range yesterday and pop off 100 rounds at a nice target (paper where the bad guy has a gun pointing back at you) and at 20 yds I finally got the 9mm sighted it to where I wanted.

The 9 yr old just wanted to shoot his testicles off....and did at 15 yds. I told him that would stop the bad guy as well but if he is armed then he is still shooting at you so let's put it where it belongs. I am not teaching them to kill but a skill. Same as any military personnel learns but they are taught to kill mainly. So I have my own boot camp :) If they ever come to your rescue you will be glad they know their crap. Paranoid...maybe a little but that is ok with me.

They already know things like run a zig-zag if being shot at to increase your odds of not getting hit...it is as much about learning to get out of a situation as is to protect themselves. So if I do go to the gas station and get an issue I am as screwed as the next person without a gun. I do not carry. Just please do not break in to my home because that is a different story.

I also live in the country...had my house robbed about 10 years ago. Young kids that obviously feared guns because they did not touch them. CDs/TVs, cameras, video cams, etc. is all they wanted. FOund my video cam at the local hock shop and got it back.

All I can say is that I am glad I do not live my life with the sense of fear and foreboding that so many of you do. I own guns. I like them and enjoy shooting. But I do not harbor any fantasies that I am going to save the world from anarchy or stare down a bad guy. It is one thing to shoot paper target in the calm of a shooting range and an all together different thing to shoot under the stress of a violent confrontation.

And Jeff, it does not seem that having guns stopped the burglary that you were a victim of. And I suspect they did not take your guns because if they were young kids as you said that they knew they would have an issue pawning the guns.

And I cannot tell you how sad it is to me that you are proud that you taught your 9 year old to shoot the testicles off a paper target.
