Wow. Using a scale like that definately shows how Roosevelt's presidency drove the nation into the largest increase in debt ever, yet Truman did his best to bring down just as fast. Looks like Ike did a Damn good job too!Originally posted by RCprince View Post
And insinuating that Clinton corrected what Reagan and Bush Sr. were to blame for has one simple answer. Clinton eviscerated the Pentagons budget to reduce the national debt. We are still paying for that mistake today. Loss of critical programs, reduced pay for military members. Worse yet. Foreign espionage had its hay day during the 90's because of either greed or poor security. You cannot put a price on that loss. Dont use dollar amounts to depict that SOB as any thing other then what he was. A scum bag who was Impeached. Not effective.

Good thing Senator McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover aren't around any more! OSE would be a much smaller, much less colorful place to visit. I kind of like it this way!
Bill, what I wanted to point out was exactly what Steven said, though he said plainly vs. the make-you-think way I did it. The generosity of Americans CAN'T be measured, as a lot of the items I alluded to are simply not tracked. Who knows how many kids pay for their parents, siblings, and friends doctoring? What about donations of music instruments and lessons? Does the IRS track how much money we give collectively to our houses of worship, to civic organizations, etc? Probably. But does it get publicized? Not that I can find (perhaps you can google better than I to find a pretty chart).
I remember a few years back one of the guys on RRR died. The whole lot of us contributed to his widow. One of my LVRCS club members died within a couple days of learning he had leukemia, and the club did what we could to help his widow turn all those airplanes into cash (he was working on a home-built in his living room!) I'm sure it's happened in many other groups. That will never make the statistics. But we are generous. Surely you don't deny that.
One evidence, though, that not all is wrong in this country is that the Amish and similar religious groups were exempted from the mandatory health care debacle is because they are known to do exactly what I was pointing out. The people of the community rally together to help. Barn raisings, health needs, etc. are all taken care of by the community, NOT by the public. (Hopefully I don't need to explain the difference to this group).
Even the expectations of our military have changed dramatically. When George Washington was encamped at Valley Forge, his army was the one receiving help from the citizens nearby. Today, our military is not just the de facto world police force (via UN and NATO actions, without compensation from either body) but also expected to serve as paramedics and first response rescue to any nation anywhere on the planet.
One thing I would like to comment on. When you mentioned the charity as a percent of GNP it was a good reminder. One thing we need to remember as we give is not how much we give, but how much we have left AFTERWARDS. When Jesus Christ saw a widow put in her last two cents into the offering, He pointed out to His disciples that she had given more because she had given all.
I challenge all of us (myself included) to think about that when you give to any sort of charity.

We can pick this apart as to what party did what and when and to whom. And defend them with facts up the wazzoo to prove our points. But the bottom line is...both parties did it to US. And we moronically go along with the diatribe that they spew. It's not the fault of either party. It's our fault for allowing it to continue and making up excuses for whomever done it. Throw them all Out!!!Government Moto:

yeah, you can come up with all kinds of facts. would be interesting to see that graph with GNP also, to see if spending went up, the citizens just worked harder and were more successful to boost the GDP. That is us guys, buying and selling, not the politicians.
congress sets the budget, president signs it. Takes all of them, it is all of them!
Good point Dom.

The President APPROVES the annual federal budget. Congress puts it together. They dont sign it into effect. He can veto it if its full of pork. He can send it back before committee to be finalized if details are not defined. He even had a line item veto power until that was removed, under Clinton. Gee what a surprise right?Originally posted by domwilson View PostCongress controls the spending?

Dom, the flood gates are already open...it's easy money for the ticians, the people (citizens) are more concerned with American Idol, Dance with The Stars, The Super Bowl (106 million viewers) they don't give a sh** about their country, as long as they make a few pennies to stuff their mouths for a few days... it's all good.Samuel Johnson - “An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere.” William Cooper "listen to everything, read everything, and believe nothing unless you can prove it in your own research!"

Well, six words
OK, when I heard about this I laughed. I thought how classic to get caught cheating on a speech. Lots of people talking about it, heck even heard a "hand covered in ink."
Then, I see what was written. six words. just six words scrawled out. Not a speech, not covered, not a outline, six words. Childish and non profesional, sure, I will go with that. then I found out it was a 40 minute speech. wow, 6 words for a 40 minute speech. Wish I was that dumb that I needed to write 6 words down for a 40 minute speech.
Was it wrong, who cares, I don't. Unproffesional, yeah, I guess so. Equate it to a speech given to gradeschoolers with teleprompters as opposed to six words for a 40 minutes speech, don't see it that way.
I still laugh at it, find it funny that she did it. But I also find it funny how much Obama uses the telepromter. All the latest presidents do, don't get me wrong but Obama really seems to use it. Might be the cartoons and photo shop photos also. (Favorite one was him coming out of the ocean from swimming with a telepromter next to him in the water).
I think the teleprompter will be one of Obamas great icons going forward. right or wrong, it will stick like a bad nickname. Both are just funny, cut them both some slack! heck, I would probably soil myself in thier shoes.
wow did this thread get off track! But it is fun reading as you can easily pick out the die hard party people as they defend thier people.

Titantic
yep, we are just all standing on the deck of the Titantic trying to get the band to play the song our side wants while it sinks!Originally posted by domwilson View PostThis just proves my point. They are all involved in taking down america.
I don't know guys, laugh at me if you want. Outside RC boats, most of us don't know each other. I come here because of the great info and ideas on our hobby. I read this section it seems, just to get fustrated. People get BIG in front of a monitor. I do not care, I have nothing to prove to people here. Hell, I suck enough at everyday life, don't need to try to get taken down here also.
But honestly, they have to be trying to take us down, don't they? I mean, how do you explain this debt? The spending? the corruption? I keep coming back to the debt. I do not see a good way out. Anyone? Anyone have the answer to how we get out of this debt and keep our country? Another stimulus now? OK, call it a jobs bill - WE HAVE NO FREAKIN MONEY LEFT!!!!! We are buying our own debt! No one has done this before and had it turn out well.
someone throw me a bone and show me a way this works without a breakdown of the system or part II of the American revolution.
go ahead and tell me how your party is going to solve it and I am a loser. I find myself thinking more about how to heat my home if the energy sector fails or energy taxes go sky high, or how to feed my kids for a year than I do about RC boats, which stinks.
family is up in Michigan, around grand rapids. Today at 2pm they said they pulled the snow trucks off the road until tomorrow. No reasons given, but it is still snowing and 2 hours until rush hour started. Budget is gone for plowing. last time I was up by Detroit over Christmas couldn't believe how poorly they were plowing and salting. tons of accidents. Michigan is broke. they are not plowing snow off the roads as much. How does this end guys?????????? i am going to go shower and go to bed.
While America sinks we argue about which is funnier: Sarah Palin hand notes or Barrack Obama telepromters. I gotta stop reading this section.
Good night my FE friends, Brian
Hmm, just sat here several minutes debating if I even post this...... Guess I did if you are reading this. Now to see if I even check back to see the jabs....
Hey, worked on some 1/10 crackerboxes tonight and my 1/16 shovel nose hydro, so some good came out of tonight! what the heck, posting it....
